Artist Easel for Kids

When I was growing up, my favorite toy was an artist easel.
I guess that it is not surprising that my favorite toy growing up was an artist easel. After all, I do own a gallery now. However, I did not discover my art career until well into my thirties.
Back when I was a child, arts and crafts was just a child's amusement. Arts and crafts was something that you did at camp or at school, or when you were bored at home, but it was not a career pursuit, at least not in my family.
Nevertheless, we had an artist easel in our house that I could paint on. And I did.

For a child, an art easel is a place to express themselves.

I believe that the ability to express yourself is a learned skill, and that children grow up as healthier adults if they learn how to communicate well with others, and express their emotions in a healthy manner.
When I was a child, my artist easel was the place I would go when I was in any kind of mood, happy or sad, to let out my feelings. Even when I was very young, and could not express myself through words, I could let out my feelings with colors.
I was the oldest child in my family, and my brother was not born until I was four, so my mother took me everywhere with her. She was a stay at home mom, like most mothers of her generation. Painting on my art easel was part of our routine.

If I'd have had such an artist easel as a child , that would have made my hear SING! I didn't ,but later DID have same in my classroom for kids to use and create and later left it out for my own sons to use...especially in summertime in the driveway where clean-up was easy. But hey, they are boys and weren't nearly as much 'into' art as me and the little girl who lived next door...maybe I 'said' I left it out for them but really it was for ...me. Grins.

A few of us shared an easel that we had at the house, but if my memory is right, it was mostly my sisters. It had a chalk board under the place where you put sheets of paper, and something else on the back...either a peg board or cork board, I can't remember:-) Great lens!

No, I didn't.
Flynn_the_Cat says:
No, but my dad built my sister one (she painted with paint, I'd moved onto a computer tablet by then!)

I didn't have an art easel as a child, but my children certainly did. And we eventually had to add to it for my daughter with a regular art table, art supplies, you name it, as she wanted to draw and paint constantly. Not surprising she grew up to be an artisit -- and is even married to another artist!

I was a "messer". My mom was afraid I would put paint in my hair or in the oven. This was, of course, a very real cause for concern ;)

No, but I wished I'd had one. My mom handed down her love of art - drawing and painting, and I really enjoyed creating in all different forms.

Grade 2-4-In this little jewel of a beginning chapter book, Gregory, the Chalk Box Kid (Random, 1987), returns with his friends Ivy and Richard. Here, Gregory paints pictures of Uncle Pancho's childhood in Mexico on the man's house. When the house is slated for demolition because of a new freeway, a plan is hatched to save it; when that fails, the house is moved out of the path of destruction to a new site. Uncle Pancho's hopes of being reunited with his son come to nothing, but a neighbor, Mr. Hiller, presents himself as a volunteer adopted son. Thus, disappointments are turned into victories. Even self-absorbed Uncle Max comes partly alive and shows a little interest in Gregory's artwork. Beier's pencil drawings are effective and plentiful but, given the topic, it's a shame they aren't in color. The full-color picture on the cover clearly shows the beatific expression of a child engaged in the flow of creation.

- I don't have an art easel -- I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler! :-) - but my daughter and son-in-law own TWO art easels, as they are both artists and spend a great deal of time working at their easels. Enjoyed your lens.
