The music and talent of American Idol 8's most talked about contestant
The simple answer is that I have been drawn in by his talent as a singer and performer. The range, control, and unique sound of his voice impress and entrance me. He has the kind of confidence and charisma on stage that I have always envied when seeing it in others. When he sings on American Idol, he doesn't just sing. He puts on a show, with gestures and facial expressions that enhance the song and make watching the videos at least two or three times more entertaining than just listening to the audio of his performances. I can't say the same for the other Idol contestants.
A few other people have already made Squidoo lenses about Adam, but I want to make one that's a little more comprehensive in terms of his artistry. I know Adam will be creating music and performing long after the hype of this American Idol season dies down!
This lens is just getting started, so I have more Adam info to come. I'll probably add more YouTube videos, put up some quotes from him on his music, and have some of my own comments on what makes him a great musician and entertainer.

These videos are of the performances only, but if you go to www.theadamlambertconnection.com, you can find links to Adam's performance clips with the introductions and judges' comments.
- "Whole Lotta Love" Performance
- I thought Adam's vocals were great, as usual, but I thought it seemed like he was reigning himself in somewhat. I mean, for Rock Week, I was expecting him to be jumping around the stage like when he did "Born to Be Wild," but instead he stayed mainly in one spot. It made me wonder if he thought last weeks "bottom 3" thing WAS because he was too showy, like the judges said. What I've seen from fans is that we felt the Bottom 3 thing was due to us dropping the ball on voting (and I am guilty, since I didn't vote at all last week. Making up for it tonight.) Am I right in thinking that most Adam fans love the "show" he puts on as much as the way he sounds? I know I do.
Anyway, his was still by far the best performance of the night, and Simon did a great job of disheartening the other contestants by saying no one could top him. Poor Kris, especially! He looked so depressed after both of his performances. Maybe he thinks his time is up? - "Feeling Good" Performance
- The Top 5 performed Rat Pack standards this week. Adam chose to pull from Muse's cover of this tune, made famous by Nina Simone. I think this was appropriate, as he sometimes sounds like Muse's lead singer, to me. His entrance was amazing, which made up for the middle of the song sounding a little muddy, tune-wise.
- "If I Can't Have You" Performance
- This was Disco week for the Top 6. Adam sang this song written by the Bee Gees and made popular by Yvonne Elliman.
- "Born to Be Wild" Performance
- The Top 7 had Movie Week, and Adam chose this song, and performed it in an energetic, hard rock style.
- "Mad World" Performance
- My favorite performance of Adam's so far--and Simon Cowell's as well, I think! For the Top 8 performances (songs from the years of the contestant's birth), Adam chose to cover Gary Jules' more balladic version of this Tears for Fears song. If Adam wasn't personally connecting with the lyrics--about feeling like an outsider--then he sure made it seem like he was. Vocally, he was able to convey intensity without singing "big" or losing control of his voice.
- "Play that Funky Music" Performance
- For the top 9 (Most Popular Downloads), Adam went with this hit from Wild Cherry.
- "Tracks of My Tears" Performance
- The Top 10 week had a Motown theme.
- "Ring of Fire" Performance
- For Country Week (Top 11), Adam took the "make it your own" card to the extreme, singing "Ring of Fire" (a Johnny Cash hit) with a Middle Eastern sounding accompaniment. Adam's smoldering performance suggested that he knows exactly what it's like to be in love's "ring of fire"--and made me think that, in comparison, Johnny Cash had no idea.
- "Black or White" Performance
- For the Top 13 week (Michael Jackson theme), Adam performed "Black or White." Perhaps it was an indication of his admiration for Michael Jackson that he didn't substantially alter the song to "make it his own" as the judges often say. Still, it was well received by the judges and audience. As a side note, he wore a leather jacket from Diesel for this performance. My sister works for Diesel. So that was nice to see.
- "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" Performance
- In the Top 36 round (Billboard Top 100 hits theme), Adam impressed the audience and judges with this sexy, high-energy rendition of the Rolling Stones hit.

The long-awaited super cool Adam fan shirts!
If you want a shirt worthy of our "glam rock god," these are the ones to wear!
After much time and effort, I finally have created the two Adam Lambert fan shirts I envisioned weeks ago. The blue one says "Adam Bomb" and has velvet letters and stars. It has a kinda retro/military feel, which I think is really fun. The black one says "Glambert" and has rhinestones! I sent Adam his own copies of both of these, but his black one says "Glamlord" instead. :)

You need to select some items to show.
Before he was a national household name
He writes songs, too!
Videos featuring music that Adam wrote or co-wrote.
The visual part of these videos isn't so great, in my opinion. For "Crawl Through Fire," the costumes and choreography are so extreme that I think they detract from the music. For the other one, "Pop Goes The Camera," the creator put the music to a slideshow of pictures of Adam. Which is great if you like to sit and gaze at him, but I'd rather see him actually performing. But I think the songs themselves are fun and very "Adam."

Kris & Adam: Why I'm glad they're friends
So, this is a slight veer from the topic of Adam's artistry, but I keep thinking about it and wanted to share my thoughts. On the individual level, it's great for Kris Allen and Adam Lambert to be friends because they have apparently been very supportive of each other in these hectic past few weeks, and seem to help each other out--Adam has said that Kris's calm nature helps him stay grounded, and I would imagine that Adam's skill with the media has been a good example for Kris.
But on a more political note, I think it's really a great example to see a guy from a conservative Christian background being close to a guy whom many conservative Christians would avoid. I am also from a conservative Christian background (but the Southeast, not Midwest) and I know that many of the people I grew up around would "draw back their skirts" from anyone who even looks like Adam (with the makeup, black nail polish, shaggy hair, flashy clothes, etc.) let alone the fact that he has kissed other guys.
I think something similar can be said from the other side. Many white liberal Americans have a negative view of conservative Christians (I don't know if Kris' personal beliefs would fit the "conservative" label, but he is from the Midwest, so that probably influenced him in a conservative direction.) Many people who don't believe in or think much about God get uncomfortable around people who are passionate about God. (And I don't know if Adam believes in God, but I'm just making general statements here.) So it's good to see two guys from these very different backgrounds finding common ground in music and building a friendship off that to the point that people are really noticing and being touched by it.
I hope that their example will make a positive impact on their fans who might not normally reach out to someone who's very different from them, assuming that there is no chance for true friendship there.
(If you aren't aware of the story behind the picture here, apparently Kris let Adam paint one of his thumbnails black, and Adam took the polish off his corresponding thumb, so that they both would carry a reminder of the other when they went on their home visits a few weeks ago.)

- Like millions of Adam's fans, especially experts and coinoissors, II believe in Adam's gift. He's going to be the iconic idol very soon. Besides being extraordinarily talented in every aspects of an idol, Adam is very smart, he knows what he needs to do, when and where to do. He's been devoting several years to perfect his talent before his appearance in public. And he's foreseen his path. He does'nt care much about small things, since he is confident in his own ability of doing great things. Yes, he's going be GREATTTTT

- Everything on the list above include the reasons that I think Adam truly a 21st Century Star. Not since Evlis Presley and The Beatles brought down the house on Ed Sullivan many, many years ago have I felt such musical magic and magnetic stage presence. Adam has the whole package and owns any stage upon which he stands. On a personal note, Adam "Rocks My Socks Off" when I see him perform and I know that he has a HUGE Career ahead of him in Music, Theaters, Films, and world-wide tours. I just hope that those who have problems with Adam's personal lifestyle can learn to accept him and enjoy him for the wonderful musical and theatrical gifts that he has. I for one am a 58 year old Christian Fan.

- I have Never in my life, heard a range like Adam.-Who could stand next to him, when the music is off? I've been listening to pop, r&b, etc, all my life, and when I saw Adam, and heard his incredible voice, and innate ability to rearrange a song--I freaked out,He did to me what Micheal Jackson did,the night he did the "moon" walk-------he moved the earth.I too couldn't think of any artist, in his field or other wise that could even come close to what he can do vocally.-I laughed when they spoke of his 'eyeliner'-where have they been, under a rock? Motley crue, Kiss, Queen, and on & on have been wearing eyeliner for YEARS.even 'little richard'.You could never 'skim' by a song of his on the radio, you'd stop cold----with.Kris Allen, I would just push another button, he's nice- but ordinary. Although, he was so gracious, when he took the idol award statue, and if you listen good-he says "Adam, deserves this"-even he knew. So now we know, the 'voters' on Idol.are deaf.
I'm sick for Adams' loss

- Glad to see another pro-Adam page - makes it nice to read something not written by a 'yah-hoo!' (poorly educated and backwards) mentality. I had a hard time responding to your poll about what I like about Adam and went with vocal range/control, as I think he's by far the finest vocalist, not just on American Idol, but on any rock stage. I like everything about him! This morning (5/05/09) Simon Cowell, on the Ellen Degeneres show, endorsed Adam as his pick for American Idol. You can hear it if you go to her website and watch the video at: http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2009/01/watch_tonys_live_streaming_vid.php , the video about Simon Cowell's return to Am. Idol. When asked why Adam was in the bottom 2, he replied that it was Adam's entrance down Ryan Seacrest's stairway. I don't know, I've been on a lot of blogs and forums and learned that a lot of people didn't vote for Adam in the assumption that he didn't need their vote to win. I hope that's not the case after tonight's show.

- I have listened to a lot of singers/performers and in all my 30 yrs. have never heard another singer or showman perform with that high degree of excellence in all categories. I applaud him - what a helluva gift he has. I would buy a ticket to hear him in a heartbeat.
