Digital Art ~ My Passion!

I love to create!  I'm a mixed media artist and photographer and what better way to create than to combined the two and get something new and different.

With digital art, there are really many possibilities!

Of course it involves digital photography.  But, then you add to it or even change it by using a computer program or by adding different artistic mediums such as paint, ink, colored pencil, a variety of gel mediums, etc.....when you get down to it, the possibilities are endless!

One of my favorite things to do is to print out a particular image on a speciality art paper and then I take gouache, a watercolor-like medium, and various colors of metallic powders and embellish it.  Embellishment can be very subtle or kind of bold.  When I am satisfied with the way the piece looks, a sealer is applied to protect it.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things!

Wonderful tools, books, secrets of the trade!

If you are a pro or just thinking of experimenting with digital art, here are some tried and true essentials from my list of needful things.
    • Great Book...Digital Art Studio by Schminke, Krause, and Lhotka
    • Another Great Book...Digital Photo Art by Airey
    • Golden Soft Matte Gel Medium...my personal favorite for multi-purpose reasons. Great adhesive, sealer, and collage qualities. Can be added to paints.
    • Krylon Kamar Varnish....non-yellowing, acid-free, spray that acts as a sealer for various artwork, including digitals. Seals, protects, and brings out the colors in a work.
    • Metallic bronzing powders. These are a wonderful medium to use on digitals that are printed on various matte papers. They come in a variety of colors and they add luminescence and depth.
    • Hewlett-Packard 8750 large format printer...my big, bad printer. This baby prints on a variety of papers and mediums with premium quality archival inks. It prints up to 13 x 19, which is a pretty good size for framing. It comes with a variety of software that helps you achieve the best possible prints which are crisp, vibrant and clear. I love it!
    • Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI Camera....my favorite camera to work with. Easy to use for professionals and beginners alike.
    • Watercolor paper....it's great to print digital art on good quality watercolor paper. Best thing to do is to experiment with different weights and textures. You need to vary these depending upon the digital image that you are printing. It's good to keep a good supply of varying kinds on hand for experimenting with and remember that it is best to pay a little extra for the good stuff to have your print turn out wonderful.
    • Watercolor pencils...they're a great way to embellish digital art that is printed out on watercolor paper. You can use any of the various watercolor pencil techniques.

    A Couple Things to Consider...

OR what to do with those "ugly" pictures and other ideas :-O

Here's a list of things to do with those pictures that didn't turn out....and some other things that are helpful when doing digital photography art:

Note: I'll be adding to this list as time goes by, so check back! This picture here is from an early morning landscape photo that I had taken where the flash went off and caused over exposure.

    * Don't delete the "ugly" pics that came out blurry or ended up with someones thumb in it...you'd be surprised with what you can do with these. If you have a photo program, you can use the various filters and settings to change these to something totally different...using settings like mirrored image and experimenting with colors and brushes...you can turn your ugly pic into an abstract art piece.

    * Experiment with black & white, infrared, and sepia settings.

    * Cut up "ugly" pics and use in a collage.

My Digital Art in Focus 2007 - What a Blessing!

    My Digital Artwork Exhibited

Three of my digital artworks had made it through the juried stage of the "Focus 2007" exhibit held in the Cleveland Ohio area and were chosen by the judges to continue on to the next stage of the exhibit. This annual exhibit was held in three locations through April 27th. I had one piece each being exhibited in each of the three shows.
This piece "Digital Rose" was at the Fairmount Center for the Creative and Performing Arts in Novelty Ohio.
The other two pieces were exhibited at:
The Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio &
Solon Center for the Arts in Solon, Ohio

Eva, you art work is exquisite! Your close up floral photography is profound, shows you really know your camera, rather your camera really knows you. They at times do have a mind of their own. Yours most definately likes you. I went to your jewelry store on Etsy. You are industrious for sure. Such creativity, loved your sites! Good luck with such great talent.
