Meet the nation's first Artist General, A Cabinet-Level Self-Appointment **(aka Michael Masley)**
The Artist General is the brainchild of musician Michael Masley. The character was created as a vehicle for delivering warnings that Michael believes may resonate enough to nudge people toward being more aware of what's happening in the world around them, and to take action.
Michael is not only very determined to make a difference in the direction our country is heading,
but is also a very inventive and talented musician, and a warm and engaging person. He's pictured here with bowhammers on his fingers, which he uses to play his cymbalom, a Hungarian relative of the hammer dulcimer. With the addition of picks on his thumbs, he is able to bow, strike, or pluck the strings, a technique which gets mesmerizing results that can be heard in his music, available on iTunes and Amazon.
Be sure to watch the video below to hear Michael's music, and to hear what others have to say about his unique creativity. And look for Michael in ART OFFICIALLY FAVORED, a documentary by Martin Yernazian-coming soon.

Michael's Bio
From Baker's Biographical Dictionary of 20th Century Classical Musicians
maker; b. Trenton, Mich., Sept. 22, 1952. He studied creative writing at Northwestern Michigan College (1970-72); in 1973 he began working with hammer dulcimer player Bob Spinner, who became a mentor. He played using traditional 2-hammer technique until 1979; during months at a fishing lodge in northern Michigan, he developed a 10-fingered "finger-hammer" technique. In 1982 he engaged the dulcimer maker William Webster of Detroit to make him a cymbalom; he added sections of violin bow to the finger hammers in 1983, creating his unique "bowhammers." In 1982 he moved to Palo Alto, California, where he met guitarist Barry Cleveland (1983); they performed as the duo Thin Ice, releasing the recordings Thin Ice Live (1984) and 1st Frost (1985); he also played on Cleveland's later albums, Mythos (1986) and Voluntary Dreaming (1990). In 1985 he settled in Berkeley, California. His own recordings include Cymbalom Solos (1985), The Moment's River (1987), Bells & Shadows (1989), Mystery Loves Company (1990), Sky Blues (1992), and Life in the Vast Lane (1993); also the compilation Mystery Repeats Itself (1994). His innovative cymbalom technique enables the player to strike, bow, or pluck notes in any combination. The resulting timbral distinctions are used to create unusually complex contrapuntal textures for a solo instrument, to which he often adds pitched and tunable percussion instruments.See Michael Masley, aka the Artist General, in the upcoming documentary: Art Officially Favored, a film by Martin Yernazian

- Never heard of him or his sayings but I'm impressed. I love the saying, "Conformity is addictive. Don't abuse it." Bear hugs, Frankster aka Bearmeister aka Cat-Woman
