A letter from DTI-Cebu Provincial Office

FOR: BUSINESS CHAMBERS, INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS, AND INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS IN CEBU

We are very pleased to update you that Cebu's music sector has launched its 'Matahum Nga Cebu' music video. The original version that came out in November 2009 was revised for RCTV to include various artists in the community. This is 4 minutes of what Cebu means to a lot of us, and we are truly proud to show the beauty, richness, diversity and creative talents of Cebu.

Mr. Ian Zafra, Vice-President of the Creative Cebu Council, Inc., and Chairman of ARTIST KO (the Cooperative for musicians and artists in Cebu), shared the links with us.

Help spread the music and love for Cebu!

Cheers,

Mission

To establish and market ArtistKo and its members as a service oriented organization by creating effective means for artist members to earn income.

Objectives

To succeed, the members are encouraged to present, administer, and manage doable and profitable projects. Every project shall be implemented and managed by any coop member, either regular or associate. The immediate goals of Artist KO are:

1. ArtistKo will conduct quarterly songwriting and music workshops facilitated by designated committees to aspiring musicians at the Outpost starting end of April of fiscal year 2010.

2. ArtistKo will organize weekly and monthly multi-disciplinary performances involving ArtistKo members and other local performers at the Outpost for the whole of fiscal year 2010.

3. ArtistKo will endeavor to organize at least one major in-house production in 2010 and will acquire at least one corporate event to organize in fiscal year 2010.

4. ArtistKo will produce and sell shirts under the brand "Artist Ko" utilizing the visual art talents of ArtistKo members beginning from the end of April of fiscal year 2010.

5. ArtistKo will establish a viable legal download system for outputs of ArtistKo members not later than November of fiscal year 2010.

All other directives that Artist KO may benefit and enjoy are set forth in the 2008 Code of Cooperative, its Articles of Cooperation and those generally granted to cooperatives under RA 9520, and its rules and regulations.

Business

Artist KO generates income from percentages of sales. Its incentive program anchors on the patronage refund scheme of CDA and an internal royalty distribution plan.

Its success lies in the massive network of members bound by patronizing the products and services designed and sold by the members for the members and the general community. Artist KO, with its entrepreneurial perspective, adapts social networking and other online marketing tools and facilities as well. It is because of the apparent success of social networking sites that online is the strongly acknowledged tool for this business.

To make this happen, it is important to build this group strong and cohesive by initially making artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs alike become stakeholders to a strong internal bond. Equally important is to establish performance indicators and produce measurable results to benefit each and every member of the cooperative. More importantly is to work with the right people beginning with the Board of Directors.
