24 years old and fresh out of art school, what am I doing writing a blog about internet marketing?

This lens is to explain the paradox of how a non-tech artist, who thought "Blog" was a word for a nasty sound, and couldn't sell to save her life, started blogging about internet marketing.

How Did I Get Here?

Life insurance, sorbe ice-cream and why selling just isn't for me.

There comes a time in every teenager's life, when the 'rents start to pressure her to get a job. When I came of age, my right of passage was right behind me. But my folks are good, kind people that allowanced me a livable sum, "just until I get on my feet". Giving an overprivileged-as-it-is teenage girl a sum she can live on... In the words of the all so wise Julia Roberts: "Big mistake! Big. Huge! I have to go shopping!.."
Well, after some disciplinary measures, I did in fact get- not one, but- many jobs. I tried my hand at everything! Waitressing (in the words of the even wiser Woody Allan: "Every hooker l meet says it beats the hell out of waitressing. waitressing's got to be the worst job in the world."), I was a sales representative of everything from sorbet ice-cream to cell phones and I tried my hand at telemarketing as well. I lasted a maximum of a month on each job.

The Great Depression

3 years of no gain

Luckily, at some point, I went to college. Art school keeps you awake at night. The good thing about that (apart from the ever so romantic bohemian life-style), is that I could convince the parental unite, I have no time for a job. But I'm an honest girl, so I did do a few gigs on the side, translating, teaching, babysitting... you know- honest, good things, that give you a sense of worth. But the whole time I could feel unemployment breathing down my neck. Let's face it, a BFA (bachelor of fine arts) gives you no promise of a job, a future, food on the table.
For three years, I've had a dreadful feeling of impending doom.

Love Will Save the Day

How my boyfriend saved my ass

Somewhere between these three years, I met a beautiful human being, whom I shall refer to, here as "Ed" (for privacies sake). Now, Ed, who ,of course, knew my predicament very well, would offer me little gigs, here and there, to get me rolling. Sometimes I'd say yes- usually I would run and hide under my bed until the boogy-man has left the building. Frankly, I didn't want to ever have to face office/shop life, ever again.
One day, however, Ed came to me with an interesting offer:
"There's this website- they paint on cups and stuff and then they sell it!"
Not totally stupefied by Ed's description, I figured, I should check anything (that doesn't involve bosses) out. That's how I stumbled upon Cafepress.

An Artist Blogging about Internet Marketing

Why my shop is not up yet

My name is Tali and I'm too busy with my internet marketing blog, to get my Cafepress shop going. You see, after about a year of learning, I have accumulated tons of knowledge. Do you know what it's like, to be the only one in your real world that knows something about internet marketing?! The blank stares! The smiles and nods! Nobody gets it!!!!
That's why I started The Marketer Review. It's an outlet for my marketing thoughts. I finally realized that out of all my odd jobs, teaching was the most satisfying and if I put it all together, I may actually have a premise for a blog.
So what is an Arts major doing, writing an internet marketing blog?
Finally, enjoying her professional life, that's what.
And as for my Cafepress shop- I'm actually working on it as we speak!

I'll Keep you posted,
Tali

But Wait! There's More!

I have yet to open a shop

That's right. I've been online for 2 years, now, and I have yet to open my Cafepress shop. How did this happen? Well, I did actually open a shop, a couple years ago. I even featured a few designs that I'm still proud of, today. Like this adorable little bugger:
But this shop was really a collection of random brainstorms and never really got anywhere. That's when I realized I have much to learn about the wonderful world internet marketing. It was also when the third year of school started, with a vengeance. Vowing to have my Cafepress shop, when I finish school and when I know all I need about marketing it on the internet.
