Art For All of Us artists fill their lives with art - not just with the pieces they create, but with the music that fills their studios, the books they read, the destinations they travel to, the restaurants they eat in, the places they search for inspiration.
Here, artist Peter Howe, shares his work, and information on how art, creativity and inspiration enriches his life.
Inspiration
Places - There are so many beautiful places in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland that I seldom travel farther afield.
Twice a month I go out on day trips making sketches and taking photographs for future references. When exhibiting I will either mix a selection of paintings or work on a theme basis, ie water, people, flowers, landscapes etc., this is also a good way of preventing 'painters block.'
Pets - I love cats and when I am in the studio Dinky my cat usually sits in the window or under a lamp. She is called Dinky after my childhood and adult love of Dinky toys. When the grandchildren visit Dinky sometimes ends up with an acrylic makeover in places but on the whole most of the paint ends up on paper.
Subjects
I enjoy painting seascapes and water related subjects, children looking into a rock pool, boats in a harbour, waves breaking, tranquil lochs and bays all have an excitement with a certain mystery. When the painting requires a lot of tonal work, small or large I usually paint in oils as the tones can be adjusted whilst the paint is still workable over several days, this would be impossible with acrylics. Every now and then I like to paint something humorous based on lifes daily events, because one can see an amusing side to most things.
Favorite Music
Mozart and the voice of Cecilia Batoli being my favourites.
