Selling on the Internet can save commissions to dealers and galleries, and give control to the artist who is the seller who wants to sell directly to the consumer. More people are buying and collecting art, and art is selling at a variety of prices, therefore people are making a living as artists. The art galleries will not go away, but now there is the flexibility to go forward with sales on your own.

Here are some suggestions for some of the the top websites for selling and displaying your art online are MySpace, Flickr, YouTube, Imagekind, and RedBubble.

What is Moving the Tidal Wave on the Internet?

People are going to Social Networking sites in huge numbers on a daily basis to get information and interact with others.

These sites give members the opportunity to build relationships, make contacts, join forums and give a place to interact with others and share needed information. Artists and buyers can establish a personal relationship.

There is always the question - when I am on a website, how do I turn it into a place where people can actually become "contacts" for my business?

Social media and the web 2.0 has provided tools like blogs and social networking sites to promote your projects. There is a blend between Blogs and other Social Sites where content, art and writing can be displayed which helps to build your web of business contacts. When you are consistently interacting with people through these tools, you can bring people to you.

How it works is like the following:

As you develop your "audience", they will follow you and will buy your products. You provide "value" to them and offer "information" to in areas you may have expertise and they will ask you what you have to offer them. They will come back to you again and again. This is "Attraction Marketing". You do not have to go out and find customers all the time - they are attracted to you and your products. Social networking websites are valuable to artists, where you can get a lot for your time online. Spend time getting to know people on Facebook, Squidoo, and MySpace, and RedBubble and share your artwork and knowledge.

Here is an example of a successful artist-entrepreneur, Duane Keiser, who started a "Blog" movement where he created painting every 24 hours called, "A Painting a Day", and kept it going with postcard-sized paintings for over a year. He posted those postcard sized paintings on his Blog and sold them on Ebay starting at $100 and profited an average of $350 and the highest $1500. He spent 1-3 hours a day oil painting. By posting to his Blog he created an "Audience" of contacts, which gave him exposure to new people on a daily basis. Now he continues to sell paintings on his Blog and online and has a huge following. Duane Keiser

You can check out many websites and see what others are doing, but why not go ahead put your artwork on the web and build a new contacts by sharing what you already know and draw people to you? Give it a try and see what happens, the world is at your doorstep.
