Wow! - fantastic lens... I had no idea there were so many ways to sell art. The difficulty is choosing the right one for you, I guess. I've had success with tailcast.com - it has an easy upload service for digital copies of my art and sells them as print-on-demand greetings cards and wall art. Very quick and very clever...! :)
  • artyfax Sep 14, 2010 @ 4:12 pm | delete
    lots of great advice, thanks
  • d-artist Apr 20, 2010 @ 9:54 am | delete
whoa, this is one long lens with some great information 5*...I have another belief in ways to art success, only because there are soooo many artist...especially with the internet revealing them. I believe it is based on right timing (being at the right place at the right time) including a uniqueness of your art... I see many artists that have made it and I wouldn't give you a wooden nickel for their art, BUT there is someone out there that does like it...making the world go around with different tastes and styles.

I'd never heard of Yessy before. I'm currently selling my artwork at Etsy and just found out about Zibbet (which, like Yessy, has no listing fees). I'm not an overnight success yet, but I'm hoping for a slow and steady climb!

Thanks Sherry, I'm a bit concerned that you paid rent AND commission at a gallery. Most would only charge commission on items sold. I would advise others to avoid that type of deal. I guess in a small area you may often have little real choice. Good luck.
  • SherryHolderHunt Oct 9, 2009 @ 3:16 pm | delete
Hello Richie, I certainly enjoyed reading your lens and I learned quite a bit. I am an artist. I did have my work in a gallery, but it is a rather small area here. Sold several but not enough to cover the rent and commisions, so I put my work online, Imagekind, Zazzle and a few other places. I wanted to tell you thank you for the information, I'm certain I'll be back. Favortied, 5*s

Not a bad idea, (painting is one way to top up your pension!) However you look pretty young to me, so I hope you give it a try much sooner. Thanks for kind comments.

Excellent lens - you've given so much great advice on how to go about making money from your artwork. I still need a bit of practice, but maybe when I retire I will paint portraits for a living!

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately, so I'll be back to use this lens as a resource. I had success selling my artistic metalwork but am now shifting my focus to painting, which is more of a challenge to market successfully. Regardless, I love doing it, which is what's most important to me.

Thanks for sharing these tips for online selling. Anyone who wants to do online selling, too, should also check out drop shippers. At this point in time, there are two things that they need to check out: this lens and these Doba reviews which can help them how not to choose bogus drop shippers esp. when you want to sell anything and not just art items...Once again, thanks for sharing this lens and I got 5 stars for it!
