Rejected--Don't Take It Personally--They Don't
I am always amazed at how many artists take customer rejection personally. After all, think about yourself as a customer. When you are shopping for a lamp, a bedspread, or new drapes, how do you shop. You have to find the perfect one for your color scheme and space.
You look and look and look, then you decided what will work.
That is how people shop for art.

Thousands of artists apply to art shows every year at all different levels. If you apply to an art show and get rejected, find out why. These are some of the common reasons qualified artists get rejected:How many spaces were available compared to how many applications did they had.
Your category is filled earlier than others.
Your work is not in theme with the event.
Another artist's work is very similar to yours.
Your photos were not up to par.
You didn't follow the instructions correctly.
They filled up earlier than expected.
None of these reasons mean that they do not like your work.
Sell Yourself
It's Always a Numbers Game
Selling is always a numbers game, but you can stack those numbers in your favor. The numbers game is this:
The more customers you interact with, the more likely you will sell to them. The more prospects you see, the more customers you will interact with, and so on.
Here's how to stack those numbers in your favor:
Prospect to the correct demographic.
Customers will be more likely to buy if they can afford your product, have room to put it in their home, and like your style.
Market to those people. Then you stack your customer interactions numbers in your favor.

Believe in Yourself and Your Product
Believing in what you are selling and yourself is key.Customers do not want to deal with an unhappy person who isn't convinced that her product isn't the best.
There is always another place for them to spend their money.
You need to tell them how much you love what you do and what you make. Make them see what you see when you make your artwork.

- Well, rejection is definitely a part of life -- it just happens. I find that with the wisdom of age comes the acceptance of rejection. If it gets me down, I give it a little time and then try again.
