Personalized Desks Make a Thoughtful Gift

Are you looking for a novel gift idea? How about a personalized desk to honor someone on your gift list. Since 2007, Asante Africa Foundation has been making education a reality for children who live in remote villages in Kenya and Tanzania. Desks and other furniture items are an important part of this process. In many villages the children must sit for hours on dirt floors or large rocks while lessons are given. As you can imagine, this is not the best environment for learning. A desk like the one pictured here is large enough to accommodate up to five children, and costs just $40. The desks are constructed of wood and metal by local carpenters who are then able to provide for their own families. Everyone in the village benefits. I've ordered personalized desks for several friends and family members. I can't guarantee that you'll receive a photograph of your gift, but will post them on this lens as they're made available.

Erna Grasz, Founder

As we celebrate our tremendous progress, we also know there is still much to do to address the severe lack of even the basics (desks, water, food and teaching aids) in so many of the schools we visited. But we are not discouraged, because we have confidence in our replicable model and our in-country team who are passionate in getting the greatest impact in the communities where we partner.

Making a donation to the Asante Africa Foundation is a sure way to help fight illiteracy. 147 children to 1 teacher? Good grief! For your work here in getting the word out about this educational charity you have my blessings and a bit o' sunshine.
