The Best Asian Dramas
in my humble opinion.
1. Nodame Cantabile
Learn more about this award-winning J-drama
Nodame Cantabile is the TV series that got me into Jdoramas. The series is a live action drama adaptation of the successful manga by Tomoko Ninomiya. Noda Megumi ("Nodame") and Chiaki Shinichi are music students at Momogaoka College of Music. Both are extremely gifted but they have opposite personalities. Ultimately, it's their shared love for music that brings them together and takes them to greater heights in their respective careers. If you love classical music, you will love watching this award-winning J-drama.

2. The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince
Learn more about this popular gender bender Kdrama series
The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince is not the first Korean drama I saw but it's the first one I really loved. Go Eun Chan is a tomboyish girl who tries to make ends meet by taking on various jobs. She meets food mogul Choi Han Kyul who mistakes her for a boy and hires her to work in his coffee shop. Hilarity and heartbreak ensues when they fall in love before he even learns that she is a woman after all. Coffee Prince is based on a romance novel titled Coffee Prince Ilhojeom by Seon-mi Lee.

Funny, romantic, and completely charming, MBC drama The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince has been the big hit of the summer. Starring heartthrobs Gong Yoo (One Fine Day) and Lee Seon Gyun (The Great White Tower) and sassy starlet Yoon Eun Hye (Palace) in a gender-bending performance, the drama is both a romantic comedy of errors and a sensitive urban drama about the dreams and confusions of young people.

5. Prosecutor Princess
Learn more about this South Korean drama
Prosecutor Princess is another Korean drama that I enjoyed watching. Ma Hye Ri (Kim So Yeon) is a fresh graduate from law school who has a brilliant mind and a sharp memory. However she is more interested in her looks, fashion and in shopping than in her new career as a prosecutor. She later matures into an excellent prosecutor after life hands her some challenges.

Which do you like better, K-dramas or J-dramas?

Korean dramas are better! Fighting!
eMargs says:
I actually find it a hard choice because both have very different styles of presentation. J-doramas are typically shorter and straight-to-the-point while k-dramas tend to be longer because of character developments. Most trendy j-doramas have an anime feel to them and are comical, sometimes bordering on being a bit too exaggerated, i would say. K-dramas, on the other hand, generally have less slapstick comedy, although they have their own, somewhat more realistic brand of humor; however, one of the major problems is the usually dragging storyline. K-dramas engage in the first few episodes, but more often than not, the story takes on a painfully slow pace in the middle.
It's a hard choice, but overall, i would choose k-drama just because i think it gives me more eye candy to spazz on. :)
yusyusrina@ymail.com says:
i like k-dramas
NAIZA says:
Definitely, I'm more of a K-drama fan but I still miss the old Taiwanese dramas like the Meteor Garden! I must say the K-dramas focus more on their story while the J-dramas gives you the anime type touch to its characters so that makes it entertaining.. Imagine all the manga series that originate in Japan.. Wow, there's so many of them are turned into live action dramas that makes it more exciting.. :)
Japanese dramas are the best! Fighto-oh!
arncyn says:
Although I enjoy watching both, I will have to say that I prefer J-dramas over the Korean stuff. The plots are more straightforward and I feel they are less cheesy/contrived than their Korean counterparts (case in point, I feel more compassion towards Mao Inoue's Tsukushi Makino vs. Goo Hye Sun's Geum Jan Di but that's just me (; )
asiacue says:
I prefer japanese dramas most. Althouth i appreciate high production values of most of korean dramas, but they have tendency to drag plot out, inject more soup and over dramatism. Japanese dramas are more laconical and somehow realistic.
