Asians are brainiac nerds. Asians are socially awkward and shy, but very hardworking. Asians can't drive--don't let them into your cars.

Why have these stereotypes appeared? How did it come about--and how will it affect those people whose lives are frequently interrupted by the ignorant folks babbling, "Hey, stay away from my pet beagle."

To be honest, I don't know.

This squidoo is only meant to present what they are, and what I think of them. You can make your own conclusions on how absurd they are.

Asians Eat Dogs

Those barbarians!

Growing up in an incredibly diverse and multicultural city, I've been lucky to avoid much of the close-mindedness that lurks in the minds of the kindest people. With internet and growing technologies, however, even the most studious homebodies can be exposed to the sharp bite of racism.

In fact, the internet was where one brilliant web-user asked a very pressing question: Is it true that Asians eat dogs?

It was not the answer that bothered me. Why, yes, SOME Asians do eat dogs. The same way SOME people like to eat corn smut and grasshoppers.

What did bother me was the responses the question evoked. The inquirer worried that their Asian neighbors had stolen their missing dog and baked him into puppy pie. One person assumed that because they had been to Chinese restaurants, the chefs had secretly hidden dog meat into their food.

While different cultures prefer different things on their dinner plates, it is definitely not alright to accuse people of things based on their race. I mean, that's common sense--right?

Asians Are All Chinese

And they all look the same!

One of my greatest pet peeves is when a person immediately assumes I am Chinese. I am not Chinese. I am Vietnamese-American.

I can understand how it can be hard to tell, but it is rarely relevant in the first place. It reminds me of a scene in Grey's Anatomy where a Chinese woman comes to the hospital with little knowledge of English. Izzy asks Cristina, the Asian intern, to please translate. Unfortunately, Cristina was Korean.

It ties in with the "Asians all look the same" thing. To me, it's just a pathetic excuse. Come on, now. It's not that hard to distinguish Jackie Chan from Chow Yun-Fat.
