Why Bother With Personal Development?
We all die but how many of us actually live?
Personal development is finding out about ourselves, our strengths, weaknesses, beliefs etc and determing to live the best life that is available to us. It is refusing to accept our lot in life. Instead aspiring for a more fulfilled way of living, whether that means increasing our income, the enjoyment of our work, the quality of our home life, the depth of our friendships and relationships, our contribution to society, our religious beliefs, our morals and values.
Development - growth, improvement, advancement
As the saying goes, you don't drive your car by looking in the rear view mirror, so why take that approach with your life?
Development comes through knowing what you want to learn or change, what you need to do to achieve that and how you will know when you have arrived.
Planning - structured preparation, ground-work, scheduling
We tend to do what is easy, keeping us in our comfort zone even if that is actually a discomfort zone. To develop we need commitment to ourselves, firstly to decide where we want to go and write down those goals. We have to invest time and money in learning, attending courses, reading books rather than watching TV.
Why do we avoid it, when the benefits are so great?
