Food of Kings

Grown by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, Asparagus has been used from the early times as a medicine due to it's diuretic properties. It is, in fact, one of the most nutritionally well-balanced vegetables in existence as well as the leading vegetable suppliers of folic acid.

Over 70,000 tons of mostly white asparagus is sold in Germany. It's been said that the best white asparagus comes from a place called "the Asparagus Triangle",centered on the town of Schwetzingen.

An asparagus banquet is held at the Schwetzingen festival. There are also concerts and plays as well at the Rocco Theater. The highlight of this festival
is when the Asparagus King or Queen is crowned (whoever weighs in the heaviest stalk)

The Bruchsal festival, is the largest asparagus festival in Europe. Hundreds of both local and international exhibitors prepare asparagus dishes and visitors get to sample them. How cool is that?!
