Introducing... Josh!

the mini moo

This is Josh. He is 3/4 miniature Jersey and 1/4 white park.
One day in March, I was in the car headed to Myrtle Beach, SC for a wedding. As I was riding I was flipping through a magazine I used to get and noticed a contest to win a miniature bull. The story was simple, a miniature Jersey breeder that has a waiting list for her heifers had 13 births January 2004. The first 12 were all bulls, the 13th birth however, was a little girl and on super bowl Sunday! With the over abundance of bulls this breeder decided to have a "name the heifer contest" with a bull as the prize. I had been around people that showed everything from dogs and cats to horses and reptiles all my life so coming up with a name should be easy.
I took the mother's name, the father's name, the 13th birth, and Super Bowl Sunday, sampled some of each and mixed them all together. The result you ask??? "Precious Gene's Super Bowl Lucky 13 Spellbreaker" with a "barn name" of "Lucky". Precious (mom's name) Gene's (dad's name) Super Bowl (she was born on Super Bowl Sunday) Lucky 13 (she was the 13th birth and lucky since they all were little boys up to this point and there is a waiting list for the little girls) Spellbreaker (she broke the spell or curse of all bulls being born), I filled it all out and sent it in. I did not think anything else about it.
The next issue arrived, I did not look at it. A while later I received an email stating 65 entries were received, each given a number to identify it. They were then sent to the president of the miniature cattle association who then chose the winner.
First Choice "Precious Gene's Super Bowl Lucky 13 Spellbreaker" (Lucky) for short submitted by....receives a registered Miniature Jersey Bull Calf...
I emailed them back "does this mean I won a moo cow?", the response "yes but we need your phone number", I sent it. Within seconds the phone rang!
I was not interested in starting a herd so rather than the full blooded calf I opted for the mixed breed and had him "cut", he was so cute! On the way to Ohio to get him a song by Josh Groban came on, I said "THAT'S IT! My moo cow's name is Josh" (I am sure Mr Groban would be honored if he knew).
Josh is now grown at about 43 inches (Taller than expected) & SPOILED! He THRIVES on attention and yes, will hold a grudge for a few days not allowing me near him. He has such a personality, everyone that meets him loves him and wants one just like him as a pet. Watch out for the moo kisses, their tongues are ROUGH!

The_Mommy_Person

I took Josh to a fall festival, there was a family there with some horses giving rides to people. This family had 2 teen aged boys with them. They came over to Josh and I, one of the boys asked what Josh was. I proceeded to tell them his breeds. He looked at me and said "no what is it"...surely he does not know what a COW is but I said "cow" anyway, he said "oooohhhhh" and walked off. It's sad when a teenaged person, especially one that arrived with a horse farm does not know what a cow looks like.
