Introducing... My Best Girlfriend, Midgie

Nickname, "Puppy"

This is Midgie. I rescued her after she was abandoned at my vet when she was a puppy. Midgie had one of the worst cases of flea anemia the vet had ever seen. Her former owner had kept her outside 24x7. She was filthy, matted and infested with fleas. She almost died, but a blood transfusion, fluids and lots of good care at the vet turned her health around.

At the time, I just wanted to get her somewhere safe and had planned to adopt her out to some nice family through the Gwinnett Humane Society in Atlanta, GA where I was a volunteer. I didn't think I'd have time for a dog and preferred cats, but she stole my heart and 11 years later I can't imagine life without her.

Midgie is a ShihTzu/Pekingese mix, but her personality is more Pekingese in that she's independent, but in a good way. She's smart and totally believes we are equals in the pack.

Midgie loves childen and is a certified therapy dog. She also has her AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate.

We used to visit children at Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta when we lived there. When we got close to the hospital she'd start to get excited because she knew she would get to be with the kids. She loves to snuggle with them and ask for belly rubs.

Midgie is such a sweetheart! I loved reading her story of how she came to be. They have a way of getting into our hearts don't they? After her rough start in life, you have given her a bit of heaven on earth.
