Introducing... My 3 Pets

My dogs are Truckers

Actually I have 3 pets, 1st I have the "Princess" her name is Brittany and she is a tiny Imperial Shih Tzu, she weighs in at around 4lbs she is blonde with some dark markings mixed in.. She sits in a special bed on the dash of my semi during the day. This is her "throne". Everything is about her, and believe me, it's not an option! Then there is my sweet darling Luke. He is a small black shih tzu with the sweetest personality ever, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body, he won't even bite playing. He loves to cuddle and kiss and he loves to play outside and be with people. Last but surely not least is my beautiful Savannah, she is a Chocolate Cocker Spaniel. She is very shy, but also extremely devoted. Once she knows somone she loves them dearly. She loves to bark at inanimate objects and is the first one under the covers at bedtime. Now you might think these are just another 3 dogs, but they are very special, you see they have been raised in my semi truck since they were each aprox. 6 weeks old. Savannah even had a litter of pups in the truck. They are wonderful companions on the road and I never go anywhere without them. My truck is the only home they know except for when we go to see their grandparents. And oh yes they know who they are. They love to visit "grandma" and "grandpa". They are my blessed angel babies. I know God blessed me with them as I travel alone and they are just the best company in the world.

Drivers, pets are a wonderful addition to your lifestyle. The provide you with company on those lonely trips, and they are not hard to train. You might have to make more frequent stops at first, but with a little patience your pet will become quickly acclimated. Mine can make do with just a potty break in am and one in pm when I am running hard. And when you are sitting, what an excuse to get "exercise", we all need that! Oh yeah, one more plus point, D.O.T. usually will become much more friendly with a pet owner than a non. I have found that one hello from one of my babies, can change their whole outlook! And you single guys...ladies love pets!! Need I say more? And Ladies, they are great protection, even if they don't bite, barking is a great deterrent to bad guys! They are also great conversationalists...they always listen and generally agree with your opinion. You can't get that from another driver!! And you know it's really great to get in your truck and find someone is really glad to see you!

Top 5 Things you should know about truckin dogs

  2. They are clean and neat
  3. They help you get exercise and fresh air (gotta go out you know)
  4. They contribute to a a healthy mental attitude

Get your pets from shelters

Puppy Mills are horrifying

Here is one of my biggest concerns. Puppy Mills and any type of animal neglect or cruelty. If you are going to own a pet, be prepared to treat them like family. That is exactly what they are, not a toy you keep awhile and then get rid of when you are tired of it. THIS IS A LIFETIME COMMITTMENT! Avoid puppys from stores, you won't believe what the parents of these puppies go thru. ( I am trying to get video on this.) These animals live their lives in cages, doing nothing but breeding and feeding. Many are not kept clean, they are underfed/watered, they are not allowed out to exercise, some never see light of day. And some of the people who run them will fool you, example..Lancaster, Pa..the Amish People there run one of the biggest puppy mills in the united states. They are well hidden which makes it hard to put them out of business. Refusing to buy from pet stores helps, it ruins their market. And don't obsess about breeds, whether a pet is purebred or mixed isn't the most important issue, what is more important is how they will fit with you and your lifestyle. Choose accordingly. Remember you are choosing a companion, not a toy. So think about you and your families lifestyle when choosing and find a pet that is suited to you. I have owned mixed breeds and purebreeds, and I can tell you there is no one that was better than the other, each one was or is special in their own way. And care for them. I cannot count how many pets I have seen dead in the road,or worse, running down or along the road (where it is just a matter of time) all because of neglect. Not being watched, improperly fenced, etc. It's not fair, they don't know how to take care of themselves! It is up to you as the "parent". These are Gods creatures given to us to care for. Their love is unconditional, and that is something that is so very special.

THIS IS MY DREAM

Building a Sanctuary

My dream is to be able to build a sancuary. I own 78 acres in Mo that is adjacent to the national forest. It is very private and quiet. What I would like to do is to keep about 2 acres or so to build my own home and then use the rest to build a no-kill animal sanctuary and an abused womens sanctuary. I believe these 2 would be a perfect match as animals have amazing healing properties and the women could help in the animal sanctuary and learn useful skills. I would like to be able to take in all types of animals including the elderly, sick and hospice animals. I have a perfect setting as my property is both pasture and wooded with ponds. I would like it to be a sanctuary where there will be grass to run on, not concrete pads, where there can be play groups, and freedom as much as possible,( I like the way Best Friends has theirs set up) I can't stand to see animals locked in little cages or concrete block cubicles. Where there are lots of volunteers and visitors willing to give hugs and kisses and love. And yes adoptions, absolutely and maybe even programs to help underpriviledged children have pets.
