    Grooming Your Cat

Many people do not consider having their cat groomed or doing the grooming on their own. After all cats groom themselves constantly, so you really do not need to groom your cat, right? WRONG!!

If you have a short haired healthy cat you may be able to get away without grooming it. However, if you have a medium haired cat or a long haired cat, such as a Ragdoll or Persian some grooming may be neccesary. Grooming may or may not consist of bathing.

Ragdoll's are known for silky long coats that require little grooming. But they still require some grooming! What has worked for me is utilizing a dog rake and/or de-shedder. Yes, I said dog.....my vet recommended going for the dog version.

I must confess I was appauled at my most recent visit to the vet when I found out the Chelsea (my rescue seen on this page)is not a very good groomer. Apparently I am not the great pet-mom I thought I was. She had a couple areas that needed to be tended to. She is so fluffy, they were hidden and I had no clue!! I think the best thing for a cat like this is what my vet calls a belly and butt buzz. 3-4 times a year they can be taken to the vet to have their belly and butt fur literally buzzed off! Another important reason to have this done (new knowledge to me) is that poor grooming can lead to urinary tract infections!! So know you know!! The best part is, it only runs about $15.00 bucks!

What To Look For When Shopping For Cat Furniture

Being I am a self proclaimed cat freak with three cats of my own, and a pet supply web-site, I know a little about cat furniture. If you are shopping for a cat condo or cat tree, here are some helpful hints that should help to narrow down your purchase.

    1. Consider your space:

    • How much room do you have for your new kitty condo?
    • Do you have high ceilings?
    • Do you live in an apartment?

If you have a large space, a small cat condo might look a little funny. The same goes for a small space, you do not want a large cat condo that over-takes the room.

    2. Consider your cats behavior:

    • Does your cat enjoy sitting up high?
    • Does your cat hide more often than not?
    • Is your cat a large cat?

A cat that tends to hide may do well with a cat condo that is equipped with small nesting areas. An extra tall cat tree is ideal for cats that like to sit up in the highest areas of your home.

    3. Lastly, don't forget to coordinate your new cat tree with your home's decor:

    • Does your cat have a room of its own?
    • Will your cat condo be going in your family room or living room?
    • Are you planning on redecorating any time soon?

If your cat has its own room, a cat condo with paw prints is ideal. If your new cat furniture is going in another room, choose a nice nuetral color or a coordinate color that will compliment your room.

    Wikipedia Knows Cats

The cat (Felis catus), also known as the domestic cat or housecat"Housecat" in the American Heritage Dictionary to distinguish it from other felines and felids, is a small carnivorous mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin and household pests. It has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 years and is currently the most popular pet in the world.

A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. It can be trained to obey simple commands. Individual cats have also been known to learn on their own to manipulate simple mechanisms, such as doorknobs and toilet handles.YouTube - Gizmo Flushes Cats use a variety of vocalizations and types of body language for communication, including meowing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling, squeaking, chirping, clicking, and grunting. They are also bred and shown as registered pedigree pets. This hobby is known as cat fancy.

Until recently the cat was commonly believed to have been domesticated in ancient Egypt, where it was a cult animal. A study in 2007 found that the lines of descent of all house cats probably run through as few as five self-domesticating African Wildcats (Felis silvestris lybica) circa 8000 BC, in the Near East. The earliest direct evidence of cat domestication is a kitten that was buried with its owner 9,500 years ago in Cyprus.

I had fun making these cute little cats for a cake. People could not believe I made them without a template. They are made from fondant. They are edible, but they truly do not taste that great!

    My Rescued Pure Bred Cat

    Introducing......Chelsea

I wanted to "do the right thing" and rescue a cat this time around. It was a struggle because I still wanted a "foo foo" type kitty.
Via Petfinder.com, I found "Sophie", who was staying with an animal control officer about one hour from my home. Sophie, who is now known as Chelsea is a Himalayan, which is a form of a Persian.
She was in a home with 16 other animals, some of whom did not make it. She was nearly left behind, as she was hiding inside of a matress and they did not see her until the last second!!
She was malnourished, dehydrated, matted and near death.
The animal control officer I got her from wanted to be certain she went to the perfect home. Little did she know, cat-freak would show up to take Chelsea home!
Check out Chelsea's transition at the bottom of my lens.
