Asperger's Disease?

a lens about my experiences with Asperger's Disease.

You might hear it said that Asperger's is not a disease and that you shouldn't call it that. Actually Asperger's does fit into the definition of a disease and those who argue otherwise are being PC (politically correct). I guess some people don't like the word disease.

A more acceptable term to them is Asperger's Syndrome.

I am the single dad of a 12 year old boy who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Disease and that makes him an "Aspie", the nickname for those who have Asperger's syndrome.

Asperger's is part of the autistic spectrum, so Aspies are considered to be autistic. It is also sometimes refered to as "high functioning autism".

Choosing my battles...

I admit it, I gave up on the whole shoe-tying thing. After years of MT's and OT's and TSS's and me trying to get my son to tie his shoes, I finally gave up and went with the bungee laces on all his shoes.

I like "Speed Laces". They have some loops that you attach into the lace holes of the shoe. Then you thread the stretchy cords through and you're done. Runners seem to like them.

The funny thing is that I put them on my shoes, too; and I like them. Why mess around with tying shoes anyway. I even have them on my work shoes.
