Many College Students Are Getting Their Degree Online!

College students love learning online. Every year more of them choose to log on to their computer for class instead of attending lectures in person. As undergraduate online degree education courses increase in popularity, more colleges and universities are adding online graduate and masters programs. And studies find these online programs are gaining acceptance in the working world.

More than a quarter of all college students now take at least one course this way. In the fall of 2008, an amazing 4.6 million students were studying online, a 17 percent increase from the year before. And these students want more options! A study by the Sloan Consortium found students want colleges and universities to offer more classes online. The study found students at 73% of institutions were demanding an increase in distance classes.

Online School Is Convenient!

What attracts students to online learning? Convenience. The student calls the shots. The student determines what time a class fits their schedule. Then when they are ready, they view the lecture, complete an assignment or take a test, all over the internet. They don't even have to leave home. Online courses are ideal for a student who as to work to pay for school, for busy parents or professionals looking to add a degree. The online student does not have to rearrange their work schedule or their family time.

Due to the success of associates degree online programs, more colleges and universities are adding graduate, masters and even doctorate programs online. The Department of Education recognizes more than 1,300 online masters programs and 320 doctoral programs. Just like undergraduate students, grad students thrive on the flexibility of the Internet. They fit in school when it fits their schedule.

Most Schools Have Online Programs

The Sloan Consortium finds 65% of all schools that have online programs offer graduate courses online. Forty four percent of these schools also have masters programs online. Students can find masters degree programs for business, nursing and education. Many of these programs have the same curriculum and award the same degree as programs in schools on campus.

Online learning has changed that. Students don't have to rearrange their lives or those of their family to improve their education. Online courses may also be less expensive than traditional classes, since students can pay for one class at a time. That way a graduate student can take as many or as few courses as they can afford.

Employers Love Online Classes For Employees!

Once they get their degree, online masters are going over well with employers. A study by the Sloan Consortium found an increasing number of chief executive officers and educational institutions rated online learning just as effective as or better than a traditional education.
