All Things Literary
I, myself, had never heard of the lyric essay until about four years ago when I was a grad student taking a class called "Literary Journalism." It is a unique form of essay writing defined by the editors of The Seneca Review as "a form that partakes of the poem in its density and shapeliness, its distillation of ideas and musicality of language. It partakes of the essay in its weight, in its overt desire to engage with facts, melding its allegiance to the actual with its passion for imaginative forms."
