Asterix Comic Books
Uderzo has been behind the stories as well since Goscinny's death in 1977. Most fans agree that the best Asterix books were created before 1977, however if you can't get enough of the funny gauls in the first 24 comic, then there is still entertainment to be found in the later releases.
The entire Asterix collection encompasses 34 Comic Books, 8 animated movies, 5 films, a bunch of Asterix computer games and even a Theme park that is located near Paris.
The Asterix comic books are well known for their tongue-in-cheek humour often based on funny puns and utilizing the latin language in silly ways. An example of this is the name of the village druid Getafix which is a pun on his ability to make cures and miracle cures. In danish his name is Miraculix and in the original french version he was Panoramix.
Here you will find a list of all the Asterix comic books released as well as an overview of the cartoons, movies and other Asterix accessories available for purchase.
If you are a real fan you you need the entire collections right?

Asterix the Gaul (1961)
Written by René Goscinny and Illustrated by Albert Uderzo
Asterix the Gaul
Amazon Price: $6.12 (as of 05/27/2012)![]()
In this first issue of the Asterix series we are introduced to only a couple of the now vast character gallery. We of course meet Asterix a bold and very clever Gaulish Warrior fighting to keep his village free from the Romans who are occupying all the rest of Gaul. Obelix and his Menhirs also show up along with Getafix and the magic potion that allows the brace Gauls to fight off the entire army of Caesar.
Vitalstatistix, the village chief, Cacofonix, the tone deaf bard and Fulliautomatix, the village blacksmith with a temper all briefly appear in the "Asterix the Gaul" aswell.
The plot introduces the love hate relationship between the Gaul villagers and Caesar that runs as a red thread throughout the Asterix series.
In order to uncover the secret behind the superhuman strenght of the Gauls a spy is deployed. He discovers the magic potion and when he returns with this knowledge to the head of the roman garrison of Compendium an order is issued to capture Getafix to force the secret recipe from him.
The story is charming, very funny and full of the clever puns that the Asterix Comics are so famous for.

How Obelix Fell Into the Magic Potion: When He Was a Little Boy (Asterix)

This book illustrated by Albert Uderzo and written by René Goscinny tells the tale of how Obelix gained his permanent strenght by falling into the caudron with the magic potion as a child.
Be advised that this is not a standard comic, but rather an illustrated short story. However if you are interested in knowing the background story for Obelix and you want to see all your favourite characters as children, then this is a great addition to your Asterix collection.

- I loved the books, as a child, and would probably still read now, but it was such a long time ago I can't name my favourite. I just remember it was about Obelix and his business - Obelix and Co! That was it. :)

- Hands down my favorite books ever. I only recently stopped reading them and that was only because we moved and a 41 year old man packing up his Asterix books is a little odd.

- Hehe to be honest I don't think that is odd in the least. The humor in Asterix is so sophisticated that it works both for children and grown up alike.
