What Is Asthma Exactly?
Asthma is a chronic disease of the airways that makes breathing difficult. it is said to affect as much as 22 million people, and that is just in America. Just imagine how many people in the world that are suffering from this disease?
It also affects anyone, but is mostly prevalent in people who are under the age of 40.
The airways suffer an inflammation, and this makes the air passages that supply oxygen to the lungs small. This makes it difficult for one to breathe properly, and it may come with shortness of breath, the chest may experience tightness and the sufferer may also experiencing coughing.

Know Your Type Of Asthma
There are different types of asthma, and it is imperative that you know your type so that you can get the proper treatment for it.Allergic Asthma - This is the most common type of asthma and it is caused by inhaling allergens. With Allergic Asthma, the airways are highly sensitive to allergens, which causes the immune system to react, causing the airways to be inflamed. when this happens the sufferer may experience asthma symptoms like short of breath and coughing. The most common allergens that can trigger an attack include pollen, animal dander and dust mite feces. Besides allergens, certain things can also cause an asthma attack such as perfumes, dust and smoke, so you need to be extra careful where you are and what you are inhaling.
Occupational Asthma - this is asthma that is induced by something that you are exposed to at work. These may cause you to have an allergic reaction to a substance or cause you to have an irritant reaction, which may trigger your asthma.
Nighttime Asthma - some people experience asthma at night, and so suffer from nighttime asthma. This is a very serious form of asthma, and it can make it impossible to sleep. It has been said that most deaths that are related to asthma happen at night, that is why with nighttime asthma, a proper diagnosis needs to be made and treatment sought.
Exercise Induced Asthma - as the name implies this is asthma that is induced by vigorous exercise or physical exertion. what happens with this type of asthma is that people breathe with their mouth when they are exercising and their heart rate goes up. this makes the air that a person breathes extremely cold, because it has not been warmed by the nasal passages like it would be the case if the person was breathing through their nose. with exercise induced asthma, the cold and dry air that one inhales through the mouth makes the muscle bands sensitive to the cold dry air, and this causes the passage way to get smaller, which causes one to have difficulty breathing.
Cough Variant asthma - The main symptom of this asthma is a dry cough which does not expel any mucus. Anyone can get his type of asthma but it mostly affect young children who may have experienced childhood asthma. People who suffer from this type of asthma may experience more coughing when they exercise or if they inhale things that irritate them like perfumes and smoke.
It is also possible to have the symptoms associated with asthma and not suffer from asthma. With these, proper medical tests will have to be conducted by professionals to determine what exactly is wrong with the patient. These other diseases that mimic asthma include Sinusitis, Bronchitis and lung cancer, to mention just a few.

The Main Triggers Of Asthma
Asthma attacks can be triggered by a lot of things, so it is important to know what these are so that one can avoid them.
One of the common and most dangerous triggers for asthma is dust. It does not help the situation that dust is everywhere, which makes it a challenge to avoid. The two places that dust can be properly controlled is the house and the work space. The best way to manage your contact with dust is to ensure that the places are cleaned properly using vacuums and dusting the rest of the areas. Some people even go to the extent of using air filters to clean the air.
Another allergen which can trigger asthma are dust mites. These are just as hard to get rid of as dust, yet with a proper filtration system and with constant cleaning of the objects from the house they can be kept away from the house for a long period of time. have a look at this article which talks about how to get rid of dust mites from your house at http://ezinearticles.com/?Cure-Your-Asthma---Learn-How-to-Completely-Drive-Dust-Mites-Out-Of-Your-Home&id=4796439
Another common dangerous allergen that asthma sufferers have to look out for is mold. It is normally caused by too much humidity inside the home, but one can easily get rid of it by cleaning the house constantly and thoroughly. Some people get to the point of using a humidifier to help manage the mold.
Pollen is also extremely dangerous for asthma sufferers, especially during spring or in summer. The best way to avoid pollen is to ensure that you are inside the house as much as you possibly can, keeping doors and windows closed. If you have to get out of the house, try to wear a mask, so that you limit the contact.
It is highly recommended that if you have an asthmatic in the house, you should avoid keeping pets inside because the animal hair is an allergen which can trigger very severe asthma attacks. If you are still going to keep a pet inside make sure that there is as little hair as possible inside. Vacuuming all the house, soft furniture and washing the bedding regularly can maintain a clean environment, thus diminishing the occurrence of asthma attacks.
So there you have it, if you can manage to avoid these allergens, you will lessen your chances of your asthma attacks.

3 Ways To Help With Asthma Symptoms
The first thing to do for people who need help with asthma is to get medical help. Your doctor will be able to diagnose it properly for you, and recommend some medications to best manage the disease. The medications however, can be dangerous, expensive and they come with side effects that make you feel crappier. For most of us, myself included, breathing is one of the most natural things that we do, it is something I do not even think about. But for Asthma sufferers, it can be the difference to getting that next breath, which for some, can be difficult, painful and scary.
1. The surroundings of an asthma patient, can determine the next asthma attack. Smoke is one of the triggers for asthma, so if you live with a loved who sufferers from this disease, or you are a smoker and you suffer from this disease, the first thing that you must do is to quit. Quitting anything is never easy, but if it helps you with your asthma or helps a loved one, there is really no question about it. The lesson here is to minimize the exposure of a sufferer to dust and other pollutants like smoke.
2. Also, we bond with our pets so intimately. However for an asthma sufferer, having a pet around can be detrimental to their health. Animal hair is one of the biggest culprits, and as much as I hate to say this, it will help your asthma if you got rid of it. Once you do, make sure you get rid of all the hair in the house, by vacuuming thoroughly.
3. Coffee to the rescue. Do not go overboard with this, but coffee has been said to be a potent bronchodilator. This means that it is able to open your passageways, allowing the air to pass more easily to the lungs. Tea and cocoa also have the same effect. So the next time you feel like an attack is coming and you do not have your medicine, just have some coffee.
There is a lot of help available for asthma sufferers today, some of which are natural and some which involve normal medicine. The bottom line is, your disease is manageable and you can relief the symptoms of asthma for good.
The Importance Of Breathing Properly For Asthma Sufferers
It is a fact that asthma sufferers have trouble breathing at times. The amount of air that they breathe in and out is lower as compared to that of a normal person. The nose is designed specifically for breathing, and breathing through the mouth instead of the nose can be detrimental to ones health because the nose is not allowed to perform its main functions, which are, to take adequate air to the lungs, to warm the air and most important to clean the air before it gets to the lungs.
Breathing using the mouth is not a good thing for a person suffering from asthma. The reason for this is that most of the air that is taken in using the mouth never reaches the persons lungs. Also, when asthmatics breathe through the mouth, they associate that action with an asthmatic attack, and so they are in a constant fear that an attack may come. Worst of all, when they breathe through their mouth, the air will not be cleaned of the dirt particles and other pollutants that are in the air that ends up in the lungs.
And lastly, breathing through the mouth allows for cold dry air to get in, as opposed to the air that would be warm as it gets past the nasal passage. Some asthmatic sufferers may react to the cold air, causing the passageway for the air to the lungs to narrow down, which could result in an attack.
If the air that reaches the lungs has dust particles or is polluted with pollen or other substances, this can definitely trigger an attack or make it worse, as dust or pollen are one of the main allergens.
Breathing properly through the nose for an asthma sufferer is extremely important. Doing breathing exercises can actually lessen the stress or anxiety levels of a sufferer, and improve how well they cope with an attack as breathing exercises help strengthen the respiratory system.
Asthma sufferers can start by reminding themselves and being conscious of keeping their mouths closed. It is important to practice breathing through their noses as opposed to their mouths, to lessen the severity of the attacks or to prevent one altogether.
Once they learn to breathe properly and through their noses, sufferers will be more relaxed, and they will be in a better position to cope with an attack. Sufferers need to learn the proper breathing techniques, and it is recommended that they do breathing exercises frequently. Breathing properly is relaxing, and can be the difference between a severe asthma attack or none at all.

The Effect Of Stress On Your Asthma
Stress by all accounts is extremely negative for the body. For me, it literally makes me mentally paralyzed, to the point where I cannot sleep, I cannot focus and I cannot properly function to perform any of the things that I am supposed to do.
It might affect you differently, but I bet it makes you less productive. We all go through stress, because the world today is a much more stressful place. We have stress in our relationships, our jobs, our families and our personal battles.
Stress for asthmatics is no different, it affects the body negatively, and on top of that, it makes the asthma symptoms worse. Stress is actually one of the biggest triggers of asthma. When an asthmatic is stressed, they are more likely to have asthma attacks, and the attacks can become more severe, in the presence of stress.
We cannot avoid stress in our lives, however we can control how we react to the stress. We all need to learn to cope in stressful situations, and the best way to do this is to learn to relax, and learn the techniques to calm ourselves down.
Here are some ideas to get rid of stress:
1. Find out what stresses you. Think about things that get you agitated and stressed, and you will be in a better position to get rid of them. Once you know the root of your stress, you will be able to cut the unnecessary things. The things you cannot cut down, you need to find ways to make them more manageable and less stressful.
2. Get rid of unnecessary commitments. Make a list of things that you have to do, whether it is a daily list or a weekly list, it does not matter. Take off the things that are not important, this will free up some time and you will feel less stressed for your time.
3. Find time to relax. You need to devote time for you, where the main focus is you. We run around a lot during the day, working and spending time with family and friends, but it is important to spend time with yourself, where you do something that you like doing, or just listening to the inner you. You can read a book, do some meditation, practice breathing exercises or listen to your favorite music. Just do something that lets you connect to your inner being.
4. Exercise is one of the best stress relievers. Make some time for a walk or hit the gym, the rewards are great!
5. Putting things off and letting them pile will definitely stress you. I am also guilty of doing that. What I do now is, if I can do that thing at that moment, I get it done. It also helps me to have a daily plan of things that I want to accomplish for that day, it helps me procrastinate much less.
There are more ways to relax and de-stress. The important thing is not to let stress control and take over your life, do not let life overwhelm you. Your health comes first. If you can learn how to manage your stress, you will see the positive effects it has on the asthma.

- Hi Ramya, has your friend tried natural remedies? Check this article http://ezinearticles.com/?Natural-Asthma-Home-Remedies&id=4804671, it might help your friend. My asthma seems to be gone, and I believe the biggest thing that has helped me is avoiding the triggers, and I stay away from foods that make my asthma worse, like dairy products and salty foods. If she wants to get rid of the asthma completely, tell her to visit http://www.asthmafreeforever.info, where she can learn more about a proven way to cure it using all natural methods. I hope this helps, please do let me know if the natural methods in the article help her, they have helped me!

- yea she needs to learn how to breathe properly, so that the air that she takes to her lungs is warm, and free of dust and smoke particles and the like. These particles can trigger her asthma symptoms. Breathing will also strengthen her respiratory system, so do encourage to do some breathing exercises
