Who uses Astral Projection?
In this manner the astral body sometimes referred to as the spirit, may then travel without the boundaries of the physical world hindering it.
People who say they can astral project will use this ability to observe important events, to gain enlightenment, or as a test of their psychic ability.
Others say they can use this ability to travel backwards and forwards through time, and yet others claim there is an other world, an astral plane, that can be travelled only by those who can project their astral selves on to it.

What is Astral Projection anyway?
The concept of astral projection has been around and practiced for thousands of years, dating back to ancient China. It is currently often associated with the New Age movement.

The concept of astral projection assumes the existence of another body, separate from the physical body and capable of traveling to non-physical planes of existence.

Commonly in the astral projection experience, the experiencer describes themselves as being in a domain which often has no parallel to any physical setting, although they say they can visit different times and/or physical settings. Environments may be populated or unpopulated, artificial, natural or completely abstract and from beatific to horrific. A common belief is that one may access a compendium of mystical knowledge called the Akashic records. In many of these accounts, the experiencer correlates the astral world with the world of dreams. They report seeing dreamers enact dream scenarios on the astral plane, unaware of the more extensive and varied non-physical environment they feel surrounds them.

When and How does Astral Projection Occur
To astral project, as with all out-of-body experiences, one must feel totally relaxed, clothing fitting comfortable, reclining is best. Often a comforter is best over the body as the physical body sometimes gets cold when you travel out
Reality is created by thought projection (consciousness) into the physical. In astral projection the conscious mind leaves the physical body and moves into the astral body. You remain attached to your physical body by a 'silver umbilical type cord'. Some people are able to see the cord when astral projecting. .

You should understand that astral projection is not a 'specialist' thing, you've probably done it before, just unconsciously. The belief that you can do it is a key element to having an out of body experience, as you need a clear head with no doubts at all, otherwise your head will be clogged up with negative thoughts. This a big obstacle to overcome, but as you practise the following methods, these doubts will disappear. Whenever a thought like that comes into your head dismiss it and visualise it leaving your body.
The following exercise is pretty much the standard way to prepare yourself for astral projection. Basically it's meditating.
The key elements to this part are your posture and your breathing. You don't need to be seated in the lotus position, or any position at all. Simply find one for yourself that you can stay in comfortably for a good few hours. This could be seated in your favourite chair, sitting in bed or lying down. The only problem with lying down though is that it's all too easy to fall asleep. So unless you're confident you won't, it's advisable to choose another position. The only other requirement is a quiet place where you won't be interrupted. Any distraction will make you aware of the outside world which is exactly what you're trying to get away from! If there are noises all around, such as cars passing or pipes creaking, then you could use music. Make sure it's proper meditation music with no strong beats though.
Now that you're sitting comfortably you will need to clear your head of everything and anything that's buzzing around. Forget about your troubles and stresses, as these will just keep your mind off the job. You can find your own way of dealing with this but one example is to do it while focusing on your breathing. The correct way to breath is in through your nose and out through your mouth. Every time you breath out visualise in your head all your thoughts and troubles leaving through your mouth. You'll soon find yourself feeling more and more relaxed.

What is Binaural Frequency Projection
So what are binaural beats, and binaural frequency projections?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Binaural beats or binaural tones are auditory processing artifacts, or apparent sounds, the perception of which arises in the brain independent of physical stimuli. This effect was discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove.
The brain produces a phenomenon resulting in low-frequency pulsations in the loudness of a perceived sound when two tones at slightly different frequencies are presented separately, one to each of a subject's ears, using stereo headphones. A beating tone will be perceived, as if the two tones mixed naturally, out of the brain. The frequency of the tones must be below about 1,000 to 1,500 hertz for the beating to be heard. The difference between the two frequencies must be small (below about 30 Hz) for the effect to occur; otherwise the two tones will be heard separately and no beat will be perceived.
Interest in binaural beats can be classified into two categories. First, they are of interest to neurophysiologists investigating the sense of hearing. Second, that binaural beats may influence the brain in more subtle ways through the entrainment of brainwaves [1] [2] and can be used to produce relaxation and other health benefits.
Binaural beat stimulation has been used fairly extensively to induce a variety of states of consciousness, there has been some work done in regards to the effects of these stimuli on relaxation, focus, attention, and states of consciousness.[18] Studies have shown that with repeated training to close frequency sounds that a plastic reorganization of the brain occurs for the trained frequencies[19] and is capable of asymmetric hemispheric balancing.[20]
Brain waves
Main article: Electroencephalography
Frequency range Name Usually associated with:
> 40 Hz Gamma waves Higher mental activity, including perception, problem solving, fear, and consciousness
13-40 Hz Beta waves Active, busy or anxious thinking and active concentration, arousal, cognition
7-13 Hz Alpha waves Relaxation (while awake), pre-sleep and pre-wake drowsiness
4-7 Hz Theta waves Dreams, deep meditation, REM sleep
< 4 Hz Delta waves Deep dreamless sleep, loss of body awareness
(The precise boundaries between ranges vary among definitions, and there is no universally accepted standard.)
The dominant frequency determines your current state. For example, if in someone's brain alpha waves are dominating, they are in the alpha state (this happens when one is relaxed but awake). However, also other frequencies will be present, albeit with smaller amplitudes.
The brain entraining is more effective if the entraining frequency is close to the user's starting dominant frequency. Therefore, it is suggested to start with a frequency near to one's current dominant frequency (likely to be about 20 Hz or little less for a waking person), and then slowly decreasing it towards the desired frequency.
Some people find pure sine waves unpleasant, so a pink noise or another background (e.g. natural sounds such as river noises) can also be mixed with them. In addition to that, as long as the beat is audible, increasing the volume should not necessarily improve the effectiveness, therefore using a low volume is usually suggested. One theory is to reduce the volume so low that the beating should not even be clearly audible, but this does not seem to be the case (see the next paragraph).
Other uses
In addition to lowering the brain frequency to relax the listener (or to raise it to help focusing), there are other controversial, alleged uses for binaural beats. For example, that by using specific frequencies an individual can stimulate certain glands to produce desired hormones. Beta-endorphin has been modulated in studies using alpha-theta brain wave training, and dopamine with binaural beats. Among other alleged uses, there are reducing learning time and sleeping needs (theta waves are thought to improve learning, since children, who have stronger theta waves, and remain in this state for a longer period of time than adults, usually learn faster than adults;and some people find that half an hour in the theta state can reduce sleeping needs up to four hours; however, this is supposed to happen with any way to get into theta state, e.g. meditation; some use them for lucid dreaming and even for attempting out-of-body experiences, astral projection, telepathy and psychokinesis. However, the role of alpha-wave activity in lucid dreaming is subject to ongoing research. Alpha-theta brainwave training has also been used successfully for the treatment of addictions, for the recovery of repressed memories, but as with other techniques, this can lead to false memories.
A trial of Delta binaural beat technology over 60 days has shown positive effect on self-reported psychologic measures, especially anxiety. There was significant decrease in trait anxiety, an increase in quality of life, and a decrease in insulin-like growth factor-1 and dopamine and has been successfully shown to decrease mild anxiety and lessen hospital acute pre-operative anxiety.
Another claimed effect for sound induced brain synchronization is enhanced learning ability. It was proposed in the 1970's that induced alpha brain waves enabled students to assimilate more information with greater long term retention. In more recent times has come more understanding of the role of theta brain waves in behavioural learning. The presence of theta patterns in the brain has been associated with increased receptivity for learning and decreased filtering by the left hemisphere. Based on the association between theta activity (4-7 Hz) and working memory performance, biofeedback training suggests that normal healthy individuals can learn to increase a specific component of their EEG activity, and that such enhanced activity may facilitate a working memory task and to a lesser extent focused attention

Astral Projection for Beginners
By rantboi (Dayton, OH United States) - See all my reviews
I hesitated getting this book because some of the reviews here on Amazon made it sound like it didn't offer any techniques.
Well, needless to say, I eventually bought it. Now I'm wondering if some of the reviewers even read this book? It's a total beginners guide and offers six techniques for astral projection (each technique is explained in detail in six separate chapters).
Part one of this book gives instructions on meditation, relaxation, chakras, and other aids (like incenses) which could help one astral project. Part one also discusses conquering fear and various "keys to success" which could further help you get into the right state of mind for a conscious projection.
Part two has six chapters, each explaining in detail the following six astral projection methods: general transfer of consciousness, projecting through the chakras, meditating toward astral separation, guided meditation, using symbolic gateways, and stepping out of your dreams.
Part three discusses such things as viewing your akashic records, remote healing, and creative visualization on the astral plane.
All in all, a pretty good (and quite interesting) introduction to astral projection! The fact that it's relatively inexpensive doesn't hurt either.

- Lucid dreaming is the correct term for 'consciously dreaming', and is one form of astral projection. For some people this can happen by chance. All it takes is for you to realise you're dreaming and say to yourself 'I am dreaming'.
