ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, also referred to as the ASUS Transformer 2 is the next generation ASUS Transformer tablet. The original ASUS transformer is very popular. It's known for it's mobile docking station with keyboard while converts the tablet to a laptop form factor. It's the tablet for people who don't want to choose between a tablet and a laptop.

The new ASUS Transformer Prime updates this successful tablet with a very high spec.

And the new ASUS Transformer Prime mobile docking station which turns the Prime into a laptop form factor. Note that the Transformer Prime is not compatible with the keyboard docking station from the previous ASUS Transformer models.

ASUS Transformer Prime - Germany

The ASUS Transformer Prime is available for preorder from Amazon.de. The ASUS Transformer Prime comes in two metallic colors: gray and gold. You can order it with or without the option mobile docking station with keyboard (it is not compatible with the earlier ASUS Transformer mobile dock.)

The ASUS Tranformer Prime Release Date has not yet been officially announced. There was a press release on November 9th 2011 that confirmed the details of the Transformer Prime.

The tablet will be released in early December in the US, in time for Christmas. I'll update when I have more information.

The ASUS Transformer Prime price will be $499 for a 32GB version. There will also be a 64GB version available for $599.

The mobile dock with keyboard will cost $149 at launch.

OK, so a quad-core chip. Basically for each core a pc has it can do additional work at the same time without affecting performance. The iPad 2 is a top of the range tablet and has a dual core chip. The Transformer Prime is going to be fast with it's state of the art CPU.

It has been hinted that the Transformer Prime will run the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system either at release or very soon after. This will mean the most recent updates and improvements.

Technorati think the ASUS Transformer Prime could be an iPad Killer. Key points:

- The Transformer Prime will have a faster processor than the iPad 2 which means it should cope with heavier workloads. The quad core processor will make the Prime very good at running multiple applications at the same time.

- The two tablets offer similar sized screens. The Transformer Prime at 8.3mm is even thinner than the iPad 2.

- The shiny metal case stands up well against the iPad 2 for design

- The Transformer Prime is expected to be cheaper than the iPad 2

But
- The apps available for the iPad 2 may mean the Apple tablet is a better choice for you.

The Amazon Kindle Fire is a 7" tablet PC which is very well integrated with Amazon content. It's a great little home entertainment tablet, but it doesn't compete with a high spec 10" tablet like the ASUS Transformer Prime with it's mobile docking station keyboard.

There are rumors of a Kindle Fire 10" tablet. If and when this comes out this could be an alternative for some people, but it is likely to be very optimized for consuming media and web browsing. Rather than a powerful all round tablet pc like the ASUS Transformer Prime.

The ASUS Transformer mobile docking station has 128 customer reviews, again with a 4 star average. (At time of writing.)

This tells us that ASUS have got the basic design write for the Transformer. Now they can just focus on improving the spec and design for the ASUS Transformer Prime.

The ASUS Transformer Prime is still an excellent tablet and with the Transformer Prime coming out it's price is competitive if you don't need the absolute top of the range.
