ASVAB Study Guide

Want to take the ASVAB test? Or maybe this is a bad way to put it. No one WANTS to take it, but if you want to join the military, you'll have to, uhm, bite the bullet and not only take it but do well on it.

The ASVAB is a tough test by any measure, so I'm going to give you a few tips and resources for acing that test.

I'll even provide you with a FREE ASVAB Study Guide that gives you quite a few tips and tells you waht it takes to ace that test.

ASVAB Study Guide Tips

TWO Things You Must Master (plus one)

ASVAB Study GuideHow to ace a tough test? By getting the basics right and understanding the process. There are really two things you need to do:

1) Input the right information into your brain
2) Retrieve it during test taking time

So how do you do those things? I've got some tips for you on that in the study guide (just click on the photo to the right).

But here are a few crucial tips that will help a great deal:

To help with 1) Input the right info:

First, you need to make sure you're studying the right info. Then, be sure to study it in short but frequent intervals and take breaks. I know that there's the temptation to just cram it all in as fast as possible. But that's not a good idea. Here's why:

The brain processes new information primarily during breaks, and if you keep packing new info in there without giving it time to process, you'll end up wasting a lot of effort.

To help with 2) Retrieve the info:

You also need a source for the right information. Get a FREE ASVAB Study Guide to help you with preparing for the ASVAB test.

ASVAB Test Taking Strategies

The Key to Success: Stay Calm!

Instant Stress Relief StrategiesOkay, so I told you I was going to give you some tips on how to best retrieve all that info you have stashed away in your brain.

Rule 1: Stay calm

I know, those of you with test taking anxiety will want to throw stuff at me just about now. But please don't.

The ugly truth is that your brain has synapses that need to work, and stress hormones plug up those synapses and then they cannot work. Now what?

if you have a tendency to get stressed out during tests, you may want to practice some stress relief strategies. Go ahead and click on that link and you'll find a terrific resource that teaches you some highly effective strategies for staying calm in text taking situations and all sorts of other situations as well.

Rule 2: You can only retrieve info that is there

Sounds a bit stupid, I know, but it's true. If you discover during your test that you forgot to study something and you don't know the information, don't sweat it. There is NOTHING you can do about it at that moment, so just say to yourself, Aw shucks, well, let's go to the next question.

Stressing will get you NOWHERE! You cannot retrieve information that is not there.

Rule 3: One question at a time

Your job is to answer one question at a time and focus on that alone. If you don't know the answer, go to the next one, and so on. Until you're done.
