Atari Flashback

Classic Atari

Like others in my generation, I grew up on the Atari game in the early 80's just before Nintendo took over the market as the new favorite video game system. Nintendo took us to a new level of video games, but still didn't have that simplicity.

Games like Pac Man, Mrs. Pac Man, and Donkey Kong were the popular games that we were used to. Even people who didn't have atari games at home can tell you those titles and others like Asteroids and Centepede.

This classic Atari game system may only be available now on Ebay and probably in questionable condition, but there is another option, The Atari Flashback Game System.

Original Atari 2600

The Atari 2600 is a video game console released in October 1977. It is credited with popularizing the use of microprocessor-based hardware and cartridges containing game code, instead of having non-microprocessor dedicated hardware with all games built in. The first game console to use this format was the Fairchild Channel F; however, the Atari 2600 is credited with making the plug-in concept popular among the game-playing public.

The idea for this game is fantastic. Take a bunch of classic arcade games we've all played a million times before and update them with newly improved, "evolved," graphics. And they rock! The graphics are great, the sound effects are sufficiently retro without sounding silly, and the games retained their same heart. Overall, a really fun PSP game.

Pac Man

Danzuc says:

I got hooked on the 'mini-munch man' version made by Grandstand but do still play the traditional Pac-man Atari version.

Treasures-By-Brenda says:

I'd have to say Pac Man if only because I've never plaid Ms. Pac Man.

Ms. Pac Man

buddyandiris says:

sell and make Centipede by Atari Plug and Play Video games.

The_Goblins_Den says:

Ms. Pac-Man is my choice...it had lots more color and variety in the stages. An excellent classic that holds up to this day.

newbizmau says:

I always like Ms. Pacman better. With Ms. Pacman came better graphics and better designed levels. Do you remember we thought this was awesome in the 80's. We were so happy with our little 2D pacman world.

Ah, yes...good old Atari. My favorite was the 7800 because the home versions of Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Centipede, and the like were nearly arcade perfect.

My favorite Atari game was the Indiana Jones game. Took me forever to figure out how to beat it, but I think it was head and shoulders above the other games in terms of problem solving and story.
