What is atheism and what is it not?
Define Atheist
This examination of several definitions of atheism shows how erroneous definitions may result from the intrusion of negative opinions of atheism.
Soft Atheist, Hard Agnostic
How does atheism compare with agnosticism? As this post shows, it depends on which definition of each concept one uses.
The Two Prongs of Atheism
There are two prongs to the atheist's objection to religious belief: the irrationality of faith and the harmful nature of religion.
There is No Atheist Agenda
This post dispels the destructive misconception that there is some sort of atheist agenda which includes the complete eradication of religion, the systematic persecution of believers, and maybe even mass murder.

One question frequently asked by those just discovering atheism is, "What books would you recommend to someone just beginning to explore atheism?"

Living as an Atheist in America

A Letter To My Father
A moving letter from a born-anew atheist to his father, explaining that he is choosing a life guided by reason rather than faith.
Letter to a New Atheist
If you are starting to question your religious upbringing, beginning to doubt whether an ancient text really offers you worthwhile guidance about how to live today, or find yourself increasingly skeptical of superstition, this letter is for you.
What It Feels Like to be an Atheist
Outstanding description of what it is like to live as an atheist.
Darwin Fish Exposes Christian Privilege
I like the Darwin fish. To me, it is a healthy pro-science statement. Of course, I acknowledge that it also carries an anti-religion connotation for some people due to its design (i.e., borrowing from the Christian design which came first) and the inevitable conflict between religion and science. More than just being an interesting symbol that is interpreted in diverse ways, the Darwin fish exposes the scope of Christian privilege and says volumes about the plight of nonbelievers.
Atheists and Anger
Why do many atheists seem angry? Find out here.
Courage in Mississippi: High School Student Stands Up For Church-State Separation
A brave high school freshman in Mississippi is blowing the whistle on religious assemblies in his public school.

Atheist Activism

Organizing Atheists: Difficult But Necessary
Organizing atheists is often likened to herding cats. And yet, there are many issues on which most atheists, secular humanists, and freethinkers agree (e.g., opposition to theocracy, a preference not to be bombarded with pro-religion messages, disgust over anti-atheist bigotry, etc.). However difficult organizing atheists may be, this does not mean that it is impossible or that it would not be advantageous.
Educating the Public About Atheism
Atheists can learn a great deal from other social movements, including civil rights, women's suffrage, and gay rights. This post focuses on lessons from the GLBT community in terms of educating the public about atheism.
Empowering Nonbelievers: The Atheist Revival
Regardless of what you or I choose to call it, it is clear that we are witnessing a reinvigorated atheist movement. One of the best things about this movement is the manner in which it serves to empower nonbelievers.
Be an Atheist Activist in 30 Minutes a Week
Many atheists care deeply about maintaining the separation of church and state, promoting atheist equality, correcting popular misconceptions about atheists, and all sorts of other important goals. The number of worthy causes may even seem overwhelming at times. How can one person with limited time and resources hope to make a meaningful difference? Fortunately, one can be an effective atheist activist by investing merely 30 minutes a week.

Promoting Atheism

Framing Atheism
How should we frame atheism?
Spreading Atheism to Nonbelievers
Many freethinkers have not yet discovered the dynamic, online atheist community. How do we help them find us?
Why I'm Happy To Be An Atheist
Being an atheist isn't all gloom and doom. I'm not angry all the time. There's actually a lot to be happy about.
What Atheism Offers: The Value of Life
Believers often condemn atheists as not valuing human life, however, life is more highly valued among atheists than believers.
Help! There's an Atheist in My Garden!
Some call it "new atheism." Others, and I count myself among them, prefer to talk about an atheist movement, atheist revival, or even atheist pride. But no matter what we call it, I think we can agree increased visibility is likely to improve attitudes toward atheists.

Finding Meaning As An Atheist

Believers often fool themselves into thinking that atheists lead lives of meaninglessness. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Discovering Meaning After De-Conversion
After escaping from religion, how does the atheist find meaning?

Is atheism considered as one of the "religions", as a category? Would make sense right? Nice lens.

Atheism is really nothing more than a label used to separate oneself from a particular belief, so it shouldn't be considered as a religion. Everyone is an atheist to some extent: Christians are atheist toward the theist belief of other religions and other religions are atheist toward the theist belief in Christianity.

A non-belief in one particular thing can't really be considered as a categorical definition on par with religion.
