Here is a lens to let you know how I managed my first days on the Atkins diet!
I have been on some diet for as long as I can remember. I'm one of this people that put on weight just by walking past the cake shop, its true! Problem is: I just love food and I gave up smoking, so my weight started creeping up. I feel really bad about this, I don't allow anyone to take a picture of me, if they do, I get so furious. When I get invited to special events I get really stressed and try to find excuses not to go, but sometimes I can't get away from this events, then I feel really stressed about what to wear. Sometimes the frustration gets to me so bad that I just want to go to sleep and not wake up until the event is over. That's how bad all this is affecting me! I'm lucky to have such a good fiancé, he seems to be blind to this, entire mess , he doesn't think the same way as me, but my mirror is what I trust. I need to lose this weight.
So after have tried to do the Atkins diet to reach my target weight I failed completely to maintain the weight loss. It was good for sometime, but the cravings started and the weight loss stopped. I had been on this diet before and it worked in the past for me. This time I guess it's harder; I don't have the same life style and will power.
So it's time to try something different. A diet I never tried before, the important think is not to give up and search for the right diet plan for me! It's fair to say that my weight loss was not just in 12 days, the weight loss on my ticker factory was right but the diet lasted until the 18/08/2009. My new diet will be Weight watchers, I never tried it and that will be my next Journal on Squidoo, that should be fun! Hope you visit me there.
Day 12
My weight loss in Kilograms27 June 2009 20:35:47
I love Curry, but so many of us low carbers worry about the sauces!
Here is a Chicken Curry Recipe
Ingredients:
3 tbsp butter
2 lb chicken breast fillets, cut 1 strips
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp dried coriander
1/2 tsp dried ginger
1/4 tsp red-pepper flakes, (optional)
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1/2 cup chicken stock
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro or parsley
Instructions:
Heat butter in a heavy casserole over medium-high heat until foam from
butter subsides. Add chicken strips and cook in batches until browned, 5
minutes per batch. Add cumin, coriander, ginger, red-pepper flakes (if
using) and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, 2 minutes. Add chicken
stock and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes.
Slowly add heavy cream and simmer (do not let mixture come to a boil) until
heated through, 3 minutes.
Transfer chicken and sauce to a serving plate. Garnish with cilantro.
This recipe yields 4 servings.

My weight loss in pounds Day 11
26 June 2009 23:00:39
I think I'm on the right track this time.
I don't feel too bad at the moment, I think my lack of energy has more to do with my late nights rather than the diet itself. I'm still trying to cook low carb meals that taste good, the stir fry is still the best, fast, easy and taste great! Occasionally I just have the eggs and sausages and that makes me feel full for loger. The low carb burgers are also good so I have them always in the freezer just in case.
I would love to get any tips/advice/motivation/whatever else you guys have. I am as ready as I ever will be to be fully dedicated to changing my life, to lose this weight once and for all.
Day 10

25 June 2009 22:49:40
Ufff.... I can't believe I made it to day 10, I have had good days and bad days, but I'm still doing it! I know when I reach my weight desired I will still be on Atkins, even if just 4 days out of 7. I know it has to be better than do it all at once like now. I think starting any regime that you don't think you could happily sustain for the rest of your life is setting yourself up for failure. You lose weight then you stop caring for a few months and before you know it every pound you lose comes back.
I hope someone else out there feels inspired and lose weight.
Time to do my daily walk.
Day 9

24 June 2009 23:58:05
The diet does work, but the problem is for people like me is hard to stay away from carbs for too long. Carbs are vital for energy and to cut down carbs everyday seems insane, I just feel too tired, I know I'm pushing it at the moment. But I have to do it or the weight loss will slow down, I should have started this 6 months ago. I'm running out of time to lose weight before this holiday but nothing will stop me. I will do my best!
Day 8

23 June 2009 23:58:05
This diet takes alot of determination and willpower.
I have that, but when the weight loss slows I feel so week.
It's my fault really, I had a BBQ and couldn't keep away from nice and fresh tiger rolls, madness. So I now have some caching up to do. Ketosis is gone and it will take me 4-5 days to be on full ketosis again. It's all so silly, because I know how long it takes to get into ketosis, but I still go ahead and stuff my face.
Now I need to walk alot more, I have been lazy for a few days.
Day 7
22 June 2009 23:58:05
I think I'm going to be on this diet for a long time. I wish I never came off it. I only say this because I feel so bad right now. I have achieved my target weight many moons ago and I let myself make the same mistakes I always made. Here I am now, starting this torture again. Yes it is torture! It feels like that when I cant have what I like most, "good food"!
Day 6
Not doing too well!

21 June 2009 21:18:02
I was naughty again and had Ice cream! As I knew that ice cream would set me back a bit, I'm no longer in ketosis. I'm beating myself up for not being strong and stop myself in time. I don't know why I eat things I shouldn't, only to feel guilty after. I have to lower my carbs, I don't feel this working well like last time. Is just too hard to lose weight. I miss eating with other people, all the time i'm eating alone, just so I resist the nice food!I feel down today so I better not unload my steam here.

Day 5
20 June 2009 23:36:02
It's weekend, so I'm finding it really hard.
I did OK all day and at dinner too, but I made jelly and I decided to taste it, oh boy, I just couldn't stop myself and had to have some.
My carbs have gone high, now I'm just in this dangerous mood, where I usually say, well I messed it today, I might as well eat as much as I like.
I'm really trying to stop myself from going to the fridge and finish all that jelly off. I was in ketosis last night before I went to bed and tonight again. I don't understand why I'm not in ketosis during the day.

Day 4
19 June 2009 22:15:02
Wow, I did great today. And I made a dinner that really put a smile on my face, was a stir fry that I made up but I added egg to it and fresh cream at the end.
Was really nice, even my fiancé loved it, and asked me to make it again tomorrow for his dinner too. I manage to have less calories but not enough carbs, not sure that will affect my induction. But since I'm not in ketosis yet I thought if I could lower the carbs maybe it would speed it up. I don't know if this works or not or if it is bad for me to go that low, but if I feel bad I'll just eat some nuts to fix it..

Day 3

18 June 2009 23:45:02
Today I did good, "I think!!!", I had a mix of vegetables at dinner, still not missing carbs at all, I feel OK, I have plenty energy, I don't feel tired, well not more than usual anyway. I did have something I shouldn't have at dinner, was low carbs but still got to me at the end, so I had to go for a long walk to burn the extra calories.

Day 2

17/06/2009 23:43:35
I was brought up to eat everything on my plate: no pudding if you don't; or you'll get it cold when you next ask for something to eat.
Fruit was always available in my house as my parents always loved fruit, but I didn't like it that much, and even now, I can eat it but doesn't seem to satisfy my appetite.
Back at home most meals were carb and fat high especially the puddings.
I grew up in Portugal and Portuguese food it just mouth watering but so fat.
Butter was and still is my biggest sin, I love bread and butter and specially after dinner, in fact my punishment for not finishing my diner when I was a kid would be no bread and butter after dinner.
Anyway today I didn't do too bad, in fact I didn't make it to my carbs limit, I just can't eat nothing else I'm full and I don't fancy anything.
I have my fridge full of low carb food, but there is nothing there that I fancy apart from the chocolate cake that is left from my finance's Birthday.
No, I will not touch it!
My Nutrition Data For Today was:
Calories (kcal) 1614
Protein (g) 111.6
Carbohydrate (g) 16.0
Fat (g) 123.0
Fibre (g) 6.4
Fruit & Veg 1.4
I can see where I went wrong, not enough fruit&veg and no exercise, but my son is not well so I could not go out at all to exercise.
I didn't feel too bad today, but I had to have my dinner at 6 pm, I was so hungry I thought I was going to collapse.
After I had my dinner I was fine till about 4 hours after, so I had a snack and I'm ok again.
I'm still not in ketosis mode and that is getting to me, not sure when I will be, the fact that I did no exercise might have something to do with it.
Maybe tomorrow I can get out to have my walks again.
Day 1

16/06/2009 19:46:35
I did my research and I know what I can eat, is putting it together into a menu that I'm finding hard.
I have to try and find my book or buy another one, I remember how good it made me feel reading the book, the diet was all new to me, so the book guided me on every meal, all the information helped me so much, I must get a book today.
My Nutrition Data For Today was:
Calories (kcal)= 1021.2
Carbohydrate (g)= 34.3
Protein (g)= 50.0
Fat (g)= 77.1
Fibre (g)= 1.6
Fruit & Veg= 0.7
Water (l)= 0.2
Here we go I messed my first day already, I was meant to limit my carbohydrate intake initially to 20 grams daily, to jump-start my weight loss as my body begins to burn fat.
My mistake today was one cup of coffee with sugar, that made my carbs go well past the 20 grams.
So I had to have eggs for my dinner as they have no carbs, I like eggs but that wasn't what I had planed.
I'm so disappointed right now, but I'll stick to it, tomorrow I will do better.
The Day Before I start
15 June 2009 19:27:02
OK I did my research as it has been 6 years or so since I last was on the Atkins, the first thing I have to do is get my body in ketosis mode, Ketosis is a state where the body converts fat into ketones so that the brain can use for fuel when glucose (carbohydrates) are in short supply. It's metabolic trickery that has some major advantages over a regular, carb-based diets. There are many benefits of ketodieting, among them are: Your body burns fat as it's primary fuel source 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thus, if you restrict calories, you will burn off adipose bodyfat at a rate no carb-based diet can match. After three weeks in ketosis, my brain can get up to 70-75% of it's fuel from ketones, which is when I will really start feeling 'normal' again. Yippie! I hope other people read this and and give me support, I'm feeling exited about it already.
Dr. Atkins' Diet
My Atkins Diet Story
aka how one Iowa guy lost over 200 pounds and gained his life back. I can not say enough about how positively the Atkins Diet and low carb in general has been for me. I went from a 429 pound guy who could barely make it up a flight steps to a guy running half marathons and rejoining the National Guard. My health is fantastic, and my blood work (cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, heart) could not be better.

HERE'S WHAT I WILL DO FIRST
I Will Have To REV Up My Metabolism and Start Burning some Fat...During Induction, I'm going to reduce my carbohydrate intake to 20 Net Carbs per day. As I reduce carbs and sugars and I'll start increasing my activity level, so big walks to start with and eventually I'll start running, my body will rev into action and will begin to use fat for my primary fuel source, resulting in weight loss.
So this is what I must avoid during Induction phase:
* Added sugars and trans fats.
* Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, yams, and squash
* Bread, pasta, and grains. If for any reason I have to eat these types of foods, I must choose high-fiber, low-carb varieties with no more than 3 grams of net carbs per serving. I must really limit myself to one serving a day.
* Whole, reduced-fat or skim milk
* Fruit, except for avocados, tomatoes and olives. Yep, they're all fruits
* Nuts or seeds
* Foods that combine protein and carbs, such as, lentils, chickpeas (garbanzo beans) kidney beans and other legumes, that's it!

- My partner and I have done Atkins in the past but what works best for us is to stick to around 60g of carbs a day. We are not strict about it but it is easier if you simply stop buying starchy foods. We never have bread, potatoes, cakes or cookies in the house but we do treat ourselves to chocolate occasionally. We have been doing this for almost 6 months - I have lost around 15lbs, he has lost about 25lbs and has avoided type 2 diabetes, which his doctor told him he was on the verge of last June. It's easy; no unmanageable cravings, no pain.

- I was on the Adkins diet once, for several months, and it really worked well. The only problem was, as soon as I went back to more ... well, I guess you could say "more normal eating," much of the weight came back. And that doesn't mean I started pigging out or didn't eat healthy foods. Quite the opposite! Still, I gained back a fairly big percentage of what I'd lost. I don't know why that is, because I was exercising all along. Since then, I've simply counted calories (or kept a general idea of my calories in and out), and that's enabled me to lose weight and keep it off. (Though I still have more to go.)

- The key to keeping the weight off is the ?Stabilization Phase,? when you can eat a wide variety of foods but still have to keep those carbs under control. I assume this is more like new way of living instead of a diet; you have to do it for the rest of your life. There are four phases of the Atkins Diet, Induction Phase 1, Diet Phase 2 is Ongoing Weight Loss also known as OWL or the Atkins, after you have the Phase 3 of Atkins- Pre-Maintenance, and Atkins Diet Maintenance Phase 4, the last phase has to be done forever. I couldn't keep up with it, it's true that you can lose so much weight, but I found it tough to keep up with it. So now I decided to try WeightWatchers, maybe I can keep up with this one. Thank you for the comment; I love to know how other people get on with the diet.

- I think your an amazing lens builder and shame on squidoo for putting a limit on content.
I started my diet over, a week ago with exercise and add carbless, genesis,. and ultra vitality and took out sugar and flour and I lost 10 pounds. Carbless is a pretty amazing product. Genesis and Ultra Vitality give me tons of energy. I think I have found the perfect combination for losing weight. You know Im a nutrionist and if you ever need anything I'm here for you. My biggest fear two years ago was getting cancer. I lost my sister to brain cancer back in 1990, then my Grandmother died of cancer, then my Dad got cancer but is in remission. All together I have lost 8 close family members to cancer. Why I'm telling you this is they were checking a lump in my breast every six months and when I went to work for Symmetry and starting drinking Genesis my lump went away. Genesis fight cancer and all kinds of disease. I'm a believer in protecting the body from disease.
Always love hearing from you.
