The Atlanta Thrashers are one of the NHL's newest teams. Atlanta was awarded a NHL franchise in 1997 to replace the Atlanta Flames, which departed for Calgary in 1980 and became the Calgary Flames.
The nickname "Thrashers", after Georgia's state bird, the brown thrasher, was selected from a fan poll.
The Thrashers are now coached by GM Don Waddell. Their top players include Ilya Kovalchuk and goalie Kari Lehtonen.
They made the playoffs for the 2006-07 season but took an early exist getting defeated in four straight by the Rangers.

- Atlanta Thrashers main site
- This is the Atlanta Thrashers main internet web page. You can find just about anything you need as far as ticket information, player data, trades, coaches comments, discussion forum and more. It's not the best looing site but if you are an Atlanta Thrasher fan it's at least a first stop.
- Atlanta Journal Constitution
- This link is to the AJC, Atlanta's newspaper, which covers the Thrashers. Expect the sports writers to give less than their best in writing about the Thrashers, as hockey is still not very popular in the Dirty South. They criticize more than compliment. But it's still a good place to get the latest info. Requires free subscription to read.
- ESPN Thrashers Clubhouse
- latest sports news regarding the Thrashers. Heavy on stats. Light on other content. It's worth a visit.
- Yahoo Sports
- Yahoo Sports grabs all the news for the Thrashers and splashes it up on the tema page. I have it listed in My Yahoo for quick reference. One of my favoroties.
- SI Team Page
- Sports Illustrated team page. Boring. Mostly stats. A few headlines. Might be worth a visit if desperate for more info.
- Fox Sports
- Used to be better than it appears today. Worth a look and better than SI's offering.

I think the best thing we could hope for is anew GM that can either sign a good deal or belives in bring up more talent from the minors. I think Waddel is a good guy just in over his head we just need new blood, There has been talk of reassigning him to different duties and may be that would be best. It could be the best thing to happen to the Thrashers since Stan Kasten left.
