Atlas Moth | Attacus Atlas | Portrait of A Silent Giant
Ranked #3,172 in Pets & Animals, #78,737 overall
The World's Largest Moth
The incredible size and intricate coloring both spiked my curiosity and freaked me out at the same time. Little did I know then that these unique "bugs" only live in their adult form for 1 to 2 weeks and do not even have a mouth to feed.
To compensate for my former ignorance I put together this collection of images and information about Attacus Atlas, the Atlas Moth. Hopefully, future generations will be more enlightened than I was to marvel and wonder at this exceptional example of biodiversity.

- Hi, I was followed by an Atlas Moth a few years ago in the north of Thailand. It was flying circles over me in a food market when i decided to leave the place with the feeling that it was there because of me. When i arrived back home using my motorbike about 5 km from there i heard a sound at my window and there it was. I opened my window and let it enter. It stayed with me for 2 days before it layed a few tiny eggs and dissapeared again. Until now i have this happening in my mind. Huge !!

- That's a great story, Martin! It sure makes you wonder. Did those eggs ever hatch?
