Atomik harmonik in 2004...
Slovenian music group Atomik Harmonik - which, by the way, translates to "Atomic Accordion" - won the first prize in 2004 at one of the most prestigious song contest in Slovenia - with their very first song!
Brizgalna brizga (A Splashing Hose) became a huge hit - and it's still popular!
Their first album, released in November of that same year was another huge success with 25,000 copies sold - in a country with population of two million.
Soon after, their fame spread across the borders of tiny Slovenia, to neighboring countries, Germany and Switzerland.
At least one of the copies of album Brizgaaaaj! - "Splaaaash!" - crossed the Atlantic Ocean and was delivered to American polka star, four time Grammy nominee - Lynn Marie of Nashville.
Lynn Marie was so excited about Atomik Harmonik's music that she decided to visit them in Slovenia.

Members of Atomik Harmonik group
Dejan Celik - Frai Toni

Dejan was born in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana on November 29, 1977.
He started learning accordion as a child in a music school and button box a few years later. His first love has always been folk pop music - although most of his teenage friends were watching MTV.
Dejan and his button box ("frajtonarica" in Slovenian) soon became inseparable and his friends gave him a nick name "Frai Toni."
He also likes fishing, nature and cooking and has everything planned for the future: a small house, a wife, five children, a dog and a cat.
Spela Groselj

Spela comes from Domzale, town near Ljubljana. She lives with her mom Magda and music and dancing were always playing the biggest role in her life.
She took dancing classes since the age of five at Kazina dance school.
She was singing in a choir on Slovenian national TV at the age of seven.
For two years Spela was a member of a popular teenage music group Foxy Teens.
Spela also loves aerobics and plans to teach aerobics classes in the future.
Her other hobbies are: swimming, rollerblading, shopping and watching funny movies.

Mateja Vuk - Tejci

This always smiling, energetic gal also comes from Domzale. She started dancing to any kind of lively music and singing to a wooden spoon in her early childhood.
Tejci (common nick name for "Mateja") also took dance classes in dancing school and was singing in a school choir.
Her laughter and good mood are contagious. For her love for children Mateja wants to become a grade school teacher.
Jani Pavec

Jani describes himself as "hyperactive and addicted to music." All of his favorite childhood memories are music-related. Jani's father was playing a trumpet in the local village band and Jani regularly attended their practices.
At the age of eight he started playing accordion in a music school and formed his first band "Heroji hrupa" (Heroes of the Noise). The Heroes managed to record one single in a studio.
In early 90's Jani started making videos and nowadays he is well known as one of the top commercial video directors in Slovenia.
Another one of his achievements was a successful launch of music group "Ritem Planet" (Rhythm Planet) that made their fans happy with quite a few hits.
Jani's life motto is "seize the day" ("carpe diem" in Latin). He thinks life is way too short to be wasted on bad mood or trivial things.

- Frai Tony is an ignorant ????. I traveled 5000 miles to attend one of their concerts in Kranjska Gora last summer. Being an entertainment consultant in Las Vegas and atlantic city I was forming a 10 week tour and wanted to see this band in person. I Saw Mr Celik before the show outside the venue having a beer and walked over to introduce myself and tell him how much I enjoyed his music. He wouldn't even admit to being himself and when I offered a friendly handshake, he completely ignored it and me.
It is just plain ignorant.

Learn at home: Atomik Polka line dance

In the eyes of many people line dancing still has a cowboy image and is considered to be the kind of dance that goes with country-western music. This has been true until 1970s, when the hustle line dance became widely popular. By 1990s line dancing...
