You have the Power to Attune Yourself

Within us there is a powerful healing energy.  Reiki is a spiritual practice which channels this healing energy, called ki, through the hands.  I first learned about Reiki when I was living in Japan.  I was outside of the mall when to women approached me and asked if I was in pain.  I acknowledged that my neck and shoulder were hurting.  They stood next to me and performed reiki, and I felt my pain diminished.

After I returned to the US, I decided to learn more about Reiki.  Truthfully, I was a bit discouraged.  Living in a small town, I don't have access to any Reiki practioners.  If I wanted to study Reiki, it would cost hundreds of dollars.  I still had my doubts about Reiki, and I certainly didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars to learn more!

So, I searched for more information, and came across a book that I felt was written for me.  According to Judith Conroy, you don't need to rely on other Reiki Masters to unleash your healer within.  Her book simply guides you through the steps so that you can attune yourself.  After all, the founder of Reiki discovered it by himself, and we are just as powerful.  You can read more about her book here.

History of Reiki

Reiki is a fairly new form of harnessing self-healing energy. It was developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Tendai Budhist Monk, in the early 1900s after long hours of meditation, fasting, and prayer.

There are three degrees, or levels, of learning Reiki.

With First Degree Reiki, basic theories are covered. Hand placements are learned at this level.

In Second Degree, a symbol for mental healing is taught and the channels open wider.

The master course, or the Third Degree, teaches students how to initiate others and become teachers themselves.

Traditionally this can be a costly practice and take a long time. Some Reiki practioners suggest waiting between the three courses. Others, like Judith Conroy, believe that all can be learned at the same time. She points out that Dr Usui attuned himself to all the levels of Reiki in one go and teaches the same in her course.

I've lived my life as a skeptic, but when living in Japan I met some reiki practioners who introduced me to self-healing.
