Aubade Lingerie: Sexy Lingerie From France

The Aubade brand evolved from a French corset manufacturing company and was brought into existance in 1958 by Claude Pasquier. Though it is still led by the Pasquier family and all manufacturing is entirely in France, Aubade was aquired by the Swiss firm Calida in 2005.  Calida is best known for its comfortable, practical and rather dull pyjamas. Although we hope that Aubade will eventually infuse some glamour into Calida, we recently attended a Calida fashion show and saw no evidence of that; Calida is as 'practical' as ever.

Aubade, on the otherhand is a pioneer in the world of lingerie and was one of the first to position lingerie as sexy. Aubade claims to be the first brand to use color in lingerie and to have introduced the first lingerie named Tanga, a term that is now generically used for lingerie that has no material around the sides other than the waist band.   

The name has a romantic touch; an aubade is a poem or song about the dawn, usually associated with lovers and their reluctant parting. Thus Aubade lingerie is "inspired by courtly love, the choice of the name Aubade itself suggests the game of seduction".
