I Want to Jump from the Auckland Skytower

I Want to Leap Off the Auckland Skytower

The question is, at 49, am I too old to jump off the tallest free standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere? The world's first SkyJump is located on the Auckland Skytower, in New Zealand. Cable assisted jumpers free fall at speeds up to 85kph (52mph) for about 11 seconds while dropping 192 metres straight down. Some describe SkyJump as "Base Jumping, while attached to a wire," which is just like the movie stuntman do it.

Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Well it sounded fun enough to earn a spot on my bucket list. I have been challenged to write about the 10 things I want to do before I die. So, have a look and see if you want to join me.

Should I jump, or should I take it off my bucket list?

And the crowd cheers . . . jump, jump, jump

yourmum says:

now way are you too old to do it, i was 14 when i did it and another guy who did it when i was there must have been close to 60 if not already 60. And it is completely and totally safe, frankly i find a regular bungee jump to be more of an adrenalin rush

Leah says:

Keep it on the list! I'm spending a semester at Uni here in Auckland and *wish* my finances would allow me to take the jump!

Sk8er_Boy says:

That looks AWESOME!!! I would defiantly do it!

WendyKrick says:

Wow! That would be cool!

mbgphoto says:

Definitely jump! At 49 you are young...

ItsAngel says:

Everyone should have a dream! I think you should do it! Just be careful! lol

Pukeko says:

As soon as I get all my nerve up, away I will go.

What, are you nuts? Take it off the bucket list.

tssfacts says:

I will watch you but not join you on this one.

Mrs_R says:

Is the question that you are too old at 49 - or is there a weight limit? Your loving (hevier than you) sister! - Oh - and if we jump off together, do you think we can bring the tower down?

ohcaroline says:

Surely you have better things to do than this. :)

greenspirit says:

If you do, I shall have to look away and bite my hanky.

My Favorite Tour Book for New Zealand

from Lonely Planet

This is the newest version of the Lonely Planet Guide to New Zealand. We have lived in New Zealand for nearly 8 years and still take this book when we go to new areas. It gives us all the information we need to plan in advance or decide as we go. It guides us to the popular destinations as well as many off the beaten path surprises. If I were to own only one travel book for New Zealand, this would be the one.

Here Is What Lonely Planet Says About SkyJump

"... jumpers from all corners of the world come here to...jump from the tallest free-standing structure in the southern hemisphere."

What's Stopping Me?

auckland skytowerIn this case it might be healthy fear. I live only 45 minutes from the skytower, so there are no travel restrictions. But, there is fear. Yes, it is most definitely fear that stops me at the moment, but one day, I hope to give it a go. The oldest person to date to jump has been 94, so there is still plenty of time for me.

If a 94 year old can do it, so can you! I say, "Go for it." What an adrenaline rush it would be. I don't know if I could muster up enough courage to jump, but I like to think that I could.

You can do this one on your own, thanks. It's definitely not on my bucket list. Just looking at the polaroid " looking down on the glass the girls were jumping on" made me shriek and the hole in the elevator floor sent me for glass of water to calm down. . I certainly don't want to jump from the Auckland Sky Tower - you're a brave woman to even contemplate it.

this is something great to put on a bucket list. The pictures are great. I must be a very boring person because I'm really struggling to create a bucket list.

The views are really nice. But jumping is another matter all together.

I would like to see the view from the tower; but I would definitely not think about jumping.
