TIPS FROM THE TOP

The Viral About Me Page

I am constantly tweaking My About Me Page on eBay as I keep reading about how important it is and to try and get traffic to visit it. But I have come up with an idea to make people's About Me Pages Viral but only if you give things away on them.

First of all I am going to look things that your About Me page can contain. Bear in my mind that this page is actually a space that eBay gives you and you should consider it as your own seller website.

Use this space to identify with your target market. Tell them what you can do for them - the benefits not the features! Include contact information, even just an email address so your potential customers can contact you.

You can also put links to your websites and affiliate links on Your About Me page to create even more sales from vistors.

One thing you should definitely have on Your About Me page is an opt in box for your newslet-ter and a tempting offer of a free gift to encourage them to sign up.

Now you need to direct traffic to your About Me Page. You can do this by putting a link into your auction page like "just for visiting this auction you can pick up your free bonus from my About Me Page - Click here" kind of thing!

And ..

Make it go viral. I had a brainwave of my own!!

Well here goes ... I have set up a list on Listible called "eBay's Best About Me Pages (That Give Away Free Things)"

Now obviously I have put my About Me in there and you can add your About Me page to the list and write a description about your About Me page on there to (you will need to sign up to Listible its very quick and easy). Or you can email me with your About Me address and de-scription you would like to see with it to theauctionreporter@googlemail.com. And then add the Listible link at the bottom of Your About Me page so you will be adding more value for your visitor and showing them other great About Me pages and other people will be doing the same for you. It's a win win situation.

At the moment there is only four About Me Pages on there. So I will either browse and find some other good About Me Pages to add on there or wait for people to add their own. I will see what happens this month.

Please come join me on this adventure . . .
The LISTIBLE link you will need
Use the above link to put your About Me page on the what will be the most Viral About Me page list on the net!!
This link will Make this Venture Truely Viral
And then when I have a few About me Pages listed on their I plan to submit the Listible Link to social bookmarking sites in 30 minutes by using the techniques described in this article to become even more viral.

TIPS FROM THE TOP

A Quick Rant - Say Yes! (aimed at me as well!)

Do you say 'yes' enough? Do you think I can't do that? Well don't!

Try new categories for your established products and find new markets. Don't be afraid to try something new and experiment, you never know the results until you try!

Look into markets where you would never consider selling in, you might find a very profitable market like vibrators for example!! Don't neglect markets that are out of your comfort zone. Break away from convention and make your own rules.

Say yes to creativity and your imagination. You will find the realms are endless!

Got an error which put me out of action in listing items for a few days because eBay couldn't be bothered to get back to to say it was an irreparable error but apparently it should be fixed by now. It took about three long chats with eBay live to sort out but it was sorted out so it's not all bad! Anyway this workshop explores it's merits (the old style form is still available if you prefer!)

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT?

Reasons why eBay Removes ebook listings

eBay quite often removes ebook listings for a violation of terms so don't panic if it happens to you. The most common reasons for listings being removed are:

EBooks should be listed in the Everything else > Information products category. If you list them anywhere else, potentially eBay will eventually catch up with you.

But saying that with their new digital delivery service, you can list digital items in a huge ar-ray of categories on eBay.com so this factor may not be so relevant on today's eBay. (Free EXE ebook on the Freebie page will show you step by step how to use this Digital Delivery Service if you need it) The transcript below is a conversation I had with an eBay representa-tive on eBay live:

08:48:02 theauctionreporter
My question is when selling digitally downloadable goods, are categories that I can list in still contained within the Everything Else Section or are we now allowed to list ebooks in other niche categories like Food & Wine?
08:49:07 Peter D.
You are allowed to list in most categories.
08:49:41 Peter D.
Upon selection of the digital item option you will be prompted if you are in a category that does not offer the option.
08:50:26 theauctionreporter
Has this changed recently then beacuse when I last read the policy it said to keep ebooks in the information products section?
08:51:22 Peter D.
I believe you are right. To the best of my knowledge digital items are listed elsewhere now.
08:52:35 theauctionreporter
So I will not be breaking any eBay policies if I list digital goods in other categories?
08:53:52 Peter D.
The system will not allow you, even if you do violate the listing policy our Trust and Safety Department will remove your listing at no charge with a friendly reminder on how to correct the error.

If you write an ebook, you must state in your auction that you are the copyright owner some-thing like "Note to eBay: I am this ebook's author and own the copyright to this product".

If you are reselling an ebook you should state in your auction something like "Note to eBay: I am a licensed distributor of this ebook and have resale rights to this item.

Obviously if you do not have resell rights don't sell it, you will eventually get into trouble from eBay or the ebook's author.

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT?

Reasons why eBay Removes ebook listings (continued)

I got one of my ebooks withdrawn for having a misleading keyword in my title. I was selling a police auction ebook and out x-box in the title and I wasn't selling an x-box obviously so it was taken down. I only had a one day listing for that item so they are on the ball. Don't use keywords that do not accurately describe your item or violate any trademarks.

Things like "make a million in a hour" (I wish) is a misleading title and is not accurate so make sure your titles are accurate.

Selling only 1 cent ebooks can be another reason for your listing to be removed because eBay see that as solicitating feedback. Buying only 1 cent ebooks can also end in suspension so be careful.

If you do find one of your listings is taken off eBay, find out from eBay exactly why it has been removed. You can do this via email or by asking an eBay live representative but be pa-tient as instant answers from eBay is not common!

When you have found the reason relist the item making the required amendment, check with a eBay representative it is not breaking any rules and bingo you are not going against any eBay policies and you are building a good standing with eBay because you are making sure you are not breaking any rules.

Make your Auction, Website, Myspace Page Stand out in a Crowd

You might remember last month I wanted to add audio to my auctions as part of my plan of action. Well that was something I didn't get around to doing this month, if I had I would have signed up to SellersVoice but not now because I have come across a program way more exciting and fun! I will be using it on all my websites, auctions, About Me page and on Myspace profile and I just have to share it with you. Even the demo is mega fun!

It's called SitePal. You can get a animated character, speaking the words you ask it to tell-ing people about the merits of your auction, website whatever. I went to the demo and it's so much fun. You can type in what you want your animation to say (even dirty words if you want but I wouldn't recommend it for public hearing), select a accent and modify the ani-mated character to make them look like what you want them to look like. I like it. I love it. And it's cheaper then SellersVoice!!
The Magnificant Sitepal
Check it out through the link below and look at the demo and see if you fall in love too!

Wholesale Sources

Last month I had this to say about Wholesale Sources:

"This month everyone seems to be promoting Onesource. No wonder they will get a huge af-filiate commission!! But apparently they have a great customer service. My own preference (I've not got Onesource and won't be for a while at that price) is Saleshoo.

I'm sure it does a similar job and will be more then adequate from what I have seen of it when I start looking at getting wholesale goods as part of my eBay arsenal."
SALEHOO SUCKS
It has been brought to my attention (Thank you Dan) that Terry Gibbs absolutely hates Saleshoo and I want to show everyones opinion as I don't want to be bias on topics, especially ones that at the moment, I know little about so please check out this site for another side to the story.

QUICK START TIPS

How to create an ebook very easily when you are not an expert at anything.

You have probably heard this method before but with today's free technology it real can be a very simple process to follow. It is the process I used to interview Alex Jeffreys. I have not created the ebook yet but within the next week or so I will. You, my dear readers, will be getting a copy for free with full master resell rights and html for auction that you can use. It could well be the viral ebook that changes my life - both with the information it con-tains and how viral it goes. Watch this space.

Anyway I digress. Back to the process:
  1. Choose a topic that will sell well. If you are looking to sell something on eBay then a 3 day subscription to their Marketplace Research tool could be well worth the small invest-ment or you could dig into the eBay PULSE page to find some golden niches.
  2. Look for an expert in your chosen subject (I chose eBay but a non Internet market-ing would work just as well, especially if you decide the follow this process word for word). Ideally you are looking for an expert that doesn't know how to market on the Internet or has little time or inclination to do so. This make it easy to create a win win situation, espe-cially if you allow them top approve every step.
  3. Write some questions that reveal some juicy secrets. You may wish to send this in advance so that the expert you are interviewing can have time to prepare some answers.
  4. It's time for the interview. Now I was very lucky when I interviewed Alex as he has a conference call room in place that records calls. But some free options include GizmoProject.com, requires headset, that allows calls to be recorded, or FreeConferenceCall.com if you prefer to use a phone.
  5. Transcribe the interview. I did this myself and enjoyed it but you may want to go to Elance or get your children or neighbors to do it for you. Whatever works for you. You could always just sell the audio and cut out this part of the process should you so wish.
  6. Create your ebook. Add an introduction and about me pages about yourself and your expert. Now I have not done this yet but you will be seeing a copy of the finished product very soon. Once again if you prefer you can outsource this.
  7. Decide on affiliate links you want to include in the ebook to create additional revenue
  8. Create the auction text and design an ebook cover. I am going to write the auction text but will be outsourcing the graphics. If you plan to add master resell rights, it is a good idea to include the auction html to encourage buyers to sell on your product. You might want to create an additional web site to sell you product and promote that as well.
  9. Think about your back end selling and what else you can offer your buyers.
  10. List on eBay and/or make your website live. Sell it cheaply if you want to take ad-vantage of the viral effect. Or maybe you want to charge a premium price and no resell rights. Your decision.
  11. RINSE AND REPEAT with a new topic and another expert.

WEIRD & WONDERFUL AUCTIONS

If you haven't looked at all the weird and wonderful auctions on eBay, you should because some of them sell for extraordinarily high prices. They are mainly listed in the Weird Stuff categories and get thousands of hits. If you have a creative mind or an overactive imagina-tion you could have so much fun and make loads of money creating these types of auctions not to mention the traffic they can generate.

PLANNED & NEW ON EBAY

eBay Seller Outreach

This sounds quite religious but in fact it is a program eBay offers to it's Sellers. It is a pro-gram that offers sellers a 20 minute one on one phone consultation with eBay professionals.

While this is in no way meant to replace or overtake eBay's Live Chat representatives, it of-fers a chance for seller's to seek advice on things like improving their eBay process, solve an ongoing eBay issue or feedback on their listings to make sure no policies are being broken.
Schedule Your Call
You will, however, need to schedule your call which you can do from here.

PLANNED & NEW ON EBAY

EU eBay Sites have New Fee Structures

From the 1st March 2007 eBay business sellers in the European Union are now all subject to Luxembourg VAT rate of 15%.

What this means . . .
eBay VAT FAQs
EU Business sellers will have to apply for a VAT number, if they don't have one already and it's best to study all eBays' new policies for EU eBay sellers found here.

PLANNED & NEW ON EBAY

No more Auction Extension Software %u2013 eBay Cracks Down

eBay has written a new policy clarification that cracks down on eBay sellers who use soft-ware to extend the length of their eBay auctions past the specified expiry date. Not supris-ingly eBay doesn't allow use of this software and anyone caught doing so will have their auctions removed and even suspended.

The use of this kind of software causes negative buyer experiences as people who come an bid on an item at the last minute may find they have lost the item because the auction has been extended and someone else has won the item as a result.

PLANNED & NEW ON EBAY

Salehoo Alerts

Salehoo Alerts is a new free software endorsed by eBay, What the tool does is run searches on eBay for wholesale lots from your desktop so that you can get on with other things and hugely reduces your research time on eBay to find that elusive deal.

This software allows you to automate your searches, set timings for them, pick keywords you want to include and not include and can search up to 20 terms for you. When the software comes across with something of interest to you, the item will pop up on the screen and you can decide then and there if you would like to purchase it.

EBAY IN THE NEWS

Prominent UK eBay seller gets a ban for life from eBay

Auction seller Paraskevaides, seller of classical antiquities was banned from eBay for life after admitting to an undercover reporter that he occasionally asked other business col-leagues to bid on his goods to increase the price.

After eBay looked into the matter, they found that 404 of his auctions received a bid from the same user to increase his prices. Needless to say this lead to his life time ban from eBay.

Shill bidding as its called is not only against eBay's policies but illegal under the 2006 Fraud Act.

THE AUCTION REPORTER PROGRESS AND PLANS

February's Progress

Well this month on eBay I made $22.49 I'm getting there! So again I aim to a least double that this month!! How about that for an aim each month! Here are the links to the competed items so you can see what I sold.
PR3 MAKE MONEY FROM CATCHY T-SHIRT DOMAIN NAME - TEESTATION.COM
Sold: $9.99

THE AUCTION REPORTER PROGRESS AND PLANS

A Summary of Last Month's Goals

A summary of last month's goals and how I got on . .
  1. SET UP A STORE!! AND LIST at least 10 items (preferably nearer 20) in the store.

I have set up my store, I called it TheAuctionReporter and I listed 7 items in my store not quite what I promised but more will be added next month.
  2. I am going to attempt another Classified Ad or two promoting affiliate programs.

Sorry didn't have enough time for this one. This month I will try a Classified ad to try and get some leads to visit my About Me Page.
  3. This is a maybe item. Get audio for eBay listings. Failing that I will get a free radio that plays different songs every time an item is visited.

I haven't done this but I am glad I waited because I found Sitepal and I will be using that this month.
  4. More Advertising of The Auction Reporter and its affiliate program and creation of some sales literature to help affiliates.

I have written some sales literature you can use to promote The Auction Reporter and have been trying to get my name out on forums and Myspace.
  5. GOING VIRAL!! Hopefully the Auction Reporter Logo will appear in one of Ask Danna's new book and been seen by loads of people over the next few months.

I have an advert in Ask Danna's ebook called "Creative Networking - From Your Place to the Marketplace", which I have resell rights to and you can grab a copy from my ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/theauctionreporter
  6. Also I will be doing an interview with Alex Jeffrey's of Easy Profit Auctions and will be turning this into an viral ebook too.

Well I have done the interview as you have seen at the beginning of this newsletter, this week it will be made into an ebook and will go viral and you will be be getting a free copy, bonuses, auction listing and all to your email as soon as it is ready.
  7. Getting some traffic from Myspace, by adding my banner to my profile, with Myspace But-terfly and combining eBay & Myspace tactics.

Well I have been busy adding friends, added my banner, tried sending a few comments and tried a Myspace Butterfly attempt but limited success. I think I may have been too com-mercial and also some twat hijacked my account and sent a stupid event out that all my friends received. I may have lost a few friends from it.

This month I will being more tactile and less commercial and see how that goes. Also I will look into the groups and classified ads on Myspace as well. I have this idea I want to try out. I will let you know about next it next month, especially if it works!!

You can see my myspace butterfly attempt below. I sent out a saucy bulletin called 'Fancy a Menage a Trois' and sent them to this page:
    http://www.theauctionreporter.com/funny/menageatrois.html
  8. Trying to master the Domain Name selling game on eBay. This month I will be trying to sell:

    theLcd.Tv - Didn't sell again!
    TeeStation.com - sold for $9.99
DidYouC.com - Will be trying this month
Gift-Crazy.com - Will be trying this month
Hallowqueen.com (is it too early for this one!!) ON HOLD
I also accidently bought ScubtheWeb.com but it gets quite a bit of traffic so I'll put that up as well. ON HOLD

If you are thinking about possibly getting another idea up and running for extra income check out My Personal Cash Gifting Site. Thank You my friend, I joined you fan club as well. See you soon..
