Giving you a reason to look AT a window treatment, instead of PAST it...

This is basically a quick how-to no sew approach to dressing up a window. In this case, the window in question is a kitchen window, located above the sink, looking out to the back yard. I decided against full length drapes simply because of the proximity to the sink and the likelihood of them getting wet constantly. Cafe style panels let some sunshine in, but for the most part keep the sun out of the area. I'm not a seamstress, so I wholeheartedly endorse both of my favorite tools... FUSIBLE WEBBING and the ever faithful HOT GLUE GUN.

Okay, so maybe this isn't too much of a how to

...and more along the lines of bragging rights!

Basically what I did was this. You saw the chairs I recovered in the kitchen (if you didn't, you should: www.squidoo.com/audfroggDIY ) and I went to the fabric store in search of something similar *not the same* to the fabric I used on the chairs. I had to determine if I wanted a sheer, filmy window treatment, or something intended to block out sunlight. Once I chose my fabric, I found a pretty trim that matched the pattern on the curtains as well as tied in to the rest of the room. Then I made sure to pick up one of the neatest inventions since sliced bread... FUSIBLE WEBBING - which is essentially the way to "iron on" a seam. Cut your fusible webbing and lay it wherever you need to make a seam, iron one side while the paper is still on. Then wait til it cools, peel the paper backing off, then press the fabric to where the fusible webbing is.... and then iron again. Soon enough you should have a nice seam, without the sewing machine. I also like to use the glue gun for attaching things the fusible webbing can't. Both of these tools are my best friend, because if I don't have to sew, I'm a happy camper! The little things count, so trim and bows are important. Don't clutter it all up, but be sure to remember that embellishments add that extra pizazz to any room.
