Audio Books Come Of Age

It's interesting how the world of arts and literature has moved and changed with the advent of the digital age.

Literature for example has evolved from written tablets of stone, through papyrus (early paper) and into what we know today as a book but the changes have not stopped there.

While the printing presses of the world still print books faster than ever before to keep pace with the need that we now have just to educate ourselves on the everyday items of life, even this traditional media has gone through its own metamorphosis with the advent of Audio Books.

Now in the past if you mentioned the term Audio Books, people would reminisce about a book that had been transferred to one or more audio tapes.

Rather than be restricted to having to stop and read a book in the traditional manner you could just listen to a book on your tape player either in your car or at home.

Early audio books where not just restricted to fiction and non-fiction titles, but they became a popular way of skilling up in your free time, that is learning new skills and languages for example.

As technology gathered pace and continued its relentless march forward the CD and the internet came of age and the era of the audio tape began to wither and fade as CD became the media of choice.

Many businesses also began to take interest in internet technology around this time and they quickly recognised the opportunity that online retailing could bring (principally much lower overheads and no need for costly retail outlets).

It also allowed them to broaden their market reach as they could effectively market to an entire country (or the world) rather than relying on shopper walking past their shop windows.

Well just as the sands of time never stop flowing, nor does the pace of technology and subsequently two further technologies emerged that would shape the delivery and format of audio books for another generation. The MP3 player and the broadband internet connection.

The coming together of these two technologies heralded the arrival of the next paradigm for shopping on line - Digital Downloads. Digital downloads effectively allow the consumer to save money as there is no packaging or shipping required.

Enter The Age Of The Digital Audio Book

Digital downloads literally enable you to download audio books or any digital media directly to your computer 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year if you wish.

This is truly a real bonus for both the retailer and the consumer and in the case of audio books they can immediately downloaded and then transferred to your favourite MP3 player so you can literally carry your library around with you no matter where in the world you go.

As the general pace of life quickens and the pressure on our social time increase many people find that they no longer have time to stop relax and read their favourite book so if you want to use spare time more effectively then downloadable audio books are an excellent way of maximizing your spare time.
