Music Everywhere
The opening words to the movie set the mood and tell us the most important thing about this story:
"Listen. The music. Can you hear it? I can hear it everywhere. In the wind. In the air. In the light. It's all around us. All you have to do is open yourself up. All you have to do is listen."

August Rush - Not Just For Kids
At first glance this looks like a kid's movie but it is more. The entire family can enjoy this dramatic, romantic, heart-warming musical extravaganza with some of the most talented children you will ever set eyes on.
I immediately put this on my 'most loved movies' list. By the end of the movie I was crying tears of JOY without even realizing it. The movie ended and my face was wet!
Even my significant other, Bob, (who hates chick flicks) loved this movie. He was impressed by the plot, the acting, and the amazing musical philosophy and reality that affects everyone on this planet.
There are not very many movies I love so much I'll recommend them to anyone. This is one of those movies.

August Rush - His Mother
...Keri Russell, as Lyla Novacek
Keri Russell has such an innocent and naive-looking face, she's quite compelling as the young woman who falls in love with a stranger, and makes a baby with him the night they meet. She had the wildest, most unmanaged hair throughout the movie, but she pulls it off well because no matter how messed up her hair was, she was absolutely beautiful . . . especially in the final scenes when she's dressed in a long white gown to perform with her cello at a concert in the park. What a princess!
Keri Russell also starred in Waitress.

August Rush - His Social Worker, Richard Jeffries
...Terrence Howard
Though I'm usually no fan of social workers (see my lens about CPS) I loved Terrence Howard's performance as a compassionate, concerned social worker who did everything he could to try to help Evan Taylor aka. August Rush. We first see him at the boy's home where Evan Taylor was raised, and later he searches for Evan in New York City.
Terrence Dashon Howard (born March 11, 1969) is an American actor, singer, and rapper.Movie Stars Who Sing Having appeared in film and on television since the late 1980s, Howard had his first major role in the 1995 film Mr. Hollands Opus, which subsequently led to a number of roles in films and high visibility among African American audiences. Among his roles in movies includes Ray, Lackawanna Blues, Crash, Four Brothers, Hustle & Flow, Get Rich or Die Tryin', Idlewild, The Brave One. Howard co-starred in Iron Man and reprised the role in the video game adaption, though due to reprise his role in Iron Man II, was replaced by Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle (his Crash co-star) in October 2008.Terrence Howard: ?'Iron Man'' Replacement "Was the Surprise of a Lifetime"" TV Guide. August Rush - His Mentor
...Robin Williams, as "Wizard"
Robin Williams gave an amazing performance as the wacked-out, exploitative musician who housed children in exchange for their work as street musicians. I was blown away by everything about this "Wizard" character. Robin Williams portrayed him as deeply involved in the philosophy of music, intelligent, self-centered and thoughtless, and at times, strangely capable of genuine caring. The costume was wild - including a line of golden hoops affixed to the side of his ear. It was fun to see Williams, a familiar face, in such an unfamiliar getup. This was a realistic character with an astonishing mixture of pure evil and absolute good.
Robin McLaurim Williams (born July 21, 1951)Sources conflict. The print biographies The Life and Humor of Robin Williams: A Biography and Robin Williams: A Biography give his birth year as 1952. The Robin Williams Scrapbook also gives a birth year as 1952, as does Encyclopedia Britannica. Williams refers to himself as being "55" in an interview published July 4, 2007. He also verifies his date of birth as July 21, 1951 in a fansite interview: Stuurman, Linda. RWF talks with Robin Williams: Proost!, May 25, 2008. is an American actor and comedian.

I totally love this movie... I actually just saw it recently and, like you, I too had unusual tears of joy. It's absolutely moving and brilliant! What I enjoyed most was when he was conducting his rhapsody. It was as if immense joy flowed right from him.*****

I love this movie! I caught it on cable just before Thanksgiving. It's totally magical and I found myself thinking about it from time to time over the next few days. I especially loved the heightened hearing of the boy "August" and how he "conducts" the sound of the city streets around him. Also the scene where he's playing & experiencing the church organ and the girl and priest are watching him from behind.

I saw this as an in-flight movie - I had never even HEARD of it! I watched because I had nothing better to do and I was a captive audience. What a pleasant surprise! I loved it. My kids did, too.

- Gosh, may I be honest? I was thinking of "August Rush" from the title, before I clicked through, was surely about some activity to mark the end of summer and the beginning of back to school and back to work for some of us. Imagine my pleasant surprise to learn it is a movie and not just for kids either.
