Australia Day Pride!
Australia Day
Australia's National Holiday
Australia has its own unique culture and traditions, we don't celebrate ThanksGiving, Independence Day or even Halloween and why would we? We're not America's little brother, we are our own unique and proud country. So Australia's national holiday is of course Australia Day. Celebrated on the 26th of January it celebrates the First Fleet's landing on Botany Bay. Australia Day traditions include having a BBQ (which includes lamb), pulling out a cold beer and sitting around with your mates.Australia Day has been an official public holiday since 1994, parades and awards are often handed out on Australia Day.
There is some controversy over the date of Australia Day, indigenous Australians don't believe that celebrating the day the British 'invaded' Australia is cause for celebration, there have been numerous ideas for date changes, but Australia Day has stuck.

The Barbie
Barbie is Australian slang for barbeque (or barbecue). Barbies are an important part of lifestyle in Australia, during Summer especially most people will have or attend 3 or 4 barbies a week. There is nothing more Australian than a barbie. Other countries like to drink beer. Other countries have a pub culture. There is no a culture in the world that enjoys barbeques quite like the Australians, we have the perfect climate for it and we have the perfect mateship for it. It is very much part of our way of life and is enjoyed everywhere and by everyone.
Australian barbies are a simple and easy way to catch up with friends, family or neighbours, but there are some requirements. Requirements for an Australian Barbie are:
-Beer
-Meat
-Friends
-More Beer

Stand By Your Mate!
The Art Of Mateship
Regardless of what country you live in, coutrymen are bonded together. But no country is as serious about mateship as Australia. Mateship is about loyalty, equality, fairness and friendship. Standing by your mate originated in the time of convicts when people livning within Australia were without family or friends and bonded together, regardless of sex, age or race. Whether they've been your friend for 30years or you meet them 30seconds ago, all Australians share mateship.

True Blue
A Song By John Williamson
Hey True Blue, don't say you've goneSay you've knocked off for a smoko
And you'll be back later on
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue
Give it to me straight
Face to face
Are you really disappearing,
Just another dying race,
Hey True Blue.
True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When he's in a fight?
Or will she be right?
True Blue, I'm asking you...
Hey True Blue, can you bear the load?
Will you tie it up with wire,
Just to keep the show on the road?
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue, now be Fair Dinkum
Is your heart still there?
If they sell us out like sponge cake
Do you really care?
Hey True Blue.
True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When she's in a fight?
Or will she be right?
True Blue, I'm asking you...
True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When he's in a fight?
Or will she be right?
True Blue ... True Blue.

- A really good read this - It's great that you are so patriotic about your magnificent country. I really wish I could feel the same about my homeland, Engalnd, but there are times when I am ashamed to be an Englishman.
