Birth of An Economy Car
The original Austin Mini Cooper (see photo) was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation and its successors from 1959 to 2000 and was the most popular british car ever made. The easy on gas Mini was created as an answer to a fuel shortage in Britian in 1956.
The original Minis featured a space saving front wheel drive engine layout that allowed most of the car's floorpan to be used to create a roomy interior for passengers and luggage. The Mini was designed with interior space in mind featuring sliding windows in the doors, thus allowing for storage pockets to be fitted in the space where a standard wind up window mechanism would have been. Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names until Mini became a marque in its own right. Production started in 1959 and continued until the year when BMW took them over.

A Small Economical Car Thats Fun to Drive
The new Minis built by BMW are a thrill to drive, take the car out on some winding back roads and you really get to experience the thrill of driving it. Top speed is around 135 mph. It's not the fastest car I have ever driven but the way it holds the road is unreal, a true sports car feel. Gas mileage is around twenty in the city and thirty on the open road.The price on a basic car is not very expensive but loading the car up with otions and there are a lot of them could take you from an eighteen thousand dollar car to a thirty thousand dollar car.
