As I am a vegan, I do not really do Barbecues anymore and as I am a music fan too, I tend to just sit back and listen to the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown each year these days. Still, it is a great day and there is always plenty to do on the day.

Happy Australia Day ElleDeeEsse - we're taking our beloved grand-daughter to a BBQ lunch celebration at Kongorong, a country town near Mt. Gambier, South Australia, where they list a Ferret race as one of the attractions! Novel....

Happy Australia Day! I hope you enjoy your day celebrating with friends and family. Thanks for sharing your history of your holiday. PS. In Canada, we still go by the British English and call flip flops... thongs or sandals. We tend to call underwear...undies! The young girls go by the American language and say flip flops and thongs. :)

This lens sums up everything about Australian Day. I live in Australia for couple years now but never really understand the reason why Australians celebrate Australia Day on the 26th of January. But now I know =) And as I now live in Sydney, I can't wait to go to Sydney Harbour, enjoying the ferryathon & the boat parade. --- Blessed --- and Happy Australia Day!

Me again. I just thought you might want to point out that Thongs in Australia also mean Flip Flops. I think the Yanks may get the wrong idea!

It's always good to meet another Australian on Squidoo. I hope you have a great Australia day this month.
  • MrSquiffy Sep 18, 2010 @ 7:13 am | delete
Great lens but do we have to celebrate Australia? Can't we just pretend they never happend?
  • bluenoon Jun 14, 2010 @ 7:57 am | delete
These are lots of activities, I thought, Australians had a laid back approach to Australia day
  • ElleDeeEsse Jun 14, 2010 @ 4:36 pm | delete
You're right, bluenoon, Australians are pretty laid back about most things except when it comes to celebrating anything pertaining to Australia and Australia Day tops that list!

I was planning to just veg out in front of the tv but you just might have inspired me to venture outdoors on the day.........maybe. :)
