Steve Waugh was an incredible cricketer and still listed as one of Australia's greats. He had an incredible presence at the crease and was Australia's saviour on many occassions. However there is one innings that stands out above the rest, his last ball century in the 2003 ashes series. Not only was Australia in dire needs of runs, Steve Waugh was under alot of pressure to perform and a bad performance here could have meant the end of Australian cricket career. Australian soccer has been gaining increased popularity of the last decade and we are slwoly becoming are more dominent force in the world of soccer. In 2006 Not only did Australia manage to qualify for their first world cup since 1974, they managed a come behind victory against Japan showing the world and themselves that they had the potential to play with the best.The game was Australia's first of the World Cup and it set the tone for the remainder of the World Cup. After an early goal from Japan in the 26th minute Australia had alot of work to do and with only 8 minutes remaining on the clock, there seemed to be little hope. But substituites Tim Cahill and John Aloisi sealed the game for Australia with a combined 3 goals in the dying stages. Cementing the victory and Australia as more then just a fluke entry.

Its not often you see Australia winning a gold medal in the winter olympics, but Steven Bradbury achieved just that after a last corner pile-up involving all the other competitiors. But most people don't know that he was lucky to even be alive on that day, 18months earlier he had been involved in a skating accident and sliced his leg open, losing 4litres of blood and requiring 111 stiches, he also broke his neck in a training accident. Tony Lockett (nicknamed "Plugger") will forever be remembered after kicking the most goals of any player in the AFL/VFL, an incredible achievement. Lockett broke the previous record which had stood for 62yrs, cementing him as one of the great players of his time, the record breaking kick was taken on SUnday June 6th 1999 after marking the ball in the pocket, the siren sounded signaling the end of the first quarter, but unphased Lockett slotted in through the middle and then crowd swarmed.
