Some interesting facts about Australian Television Drama

Our first TV series The Adventures of Long John Silver was made for Britain and the USA in 1958 in Sydney. Not enough Australian's owned TV sets for us to provide enough demand for shows exclusively for Australian audiences.

The first soap opera was called Autumn Affair. Episodes were 15 minutes long and the program ended after 158 episodes.

The first long running soap was the ABC's BellBird that ran for 10 years from 1967-1977

Our best loved family drama is perhaps The Sulllivans, set in WW2 it told the story of a family from Melbourne and the effect of the war on them and their community.

The Young Doctors - a relationship based drama that rarely featured any medical story lines. It ran for 7 years and was the longest running series when it ended.

Still running today Neighbours began in 1986 and has to date produced 26 seasons. It is shown in 50 countries and is considered our most successful international tv sale.

    somehow the tv stuff is just not interesting. i don't even watch much tv in my own day to day life. i am more of a computer book person
