For Lovers of All Things Australian

Say the word "Australia" and most people will immediately think of the unsual wildlife. Now let's be honest... did images of kangaroos, koalas and emus (just to name a few) suddenly spring to mind? For most people, Australia is a land far away, filled with mysterious flora and fauna, where the sun is harsh, the beaches are beautiful and the people are unique. Does this sound familiar to you?

When I think of Australia, I think of a sunburnt country - hot summers filled with days at the beach and barbeques. I think of an untamed and beautiful countryside, filled with the most curious animals and glorious sights. I think of a sporting country, where sports such as swimming, tennis, cricket, surfing, Australian Rules Football and rugby play such an important part of daily life. Most importantly, when I think of Australia, I think of home.

Australia's beauty and uniqueness is popular with many people around the world, who love to have momentos to remind them of the Land Down Under. The perfect memento is one which captures the essence of Australia and this page features gifts and mementos which have been handpicked as symbolising all things Australian.

Australian Animals

Koalas, Kangaroos, Wombats and More

Australia has perhaps the largest range of unusual native animals, which are very popular with tourists and most Australians. Many of them are cute and toy koalas and kangaroos are one of the biggest selling souvenirs to tourists visiting our shores. Some of our fauna are not so cute and cuddly and can be very dangerous to those who are unaware of their pitfalls, including crocodiles, snakes and spiders.

Amazon Price: $7.09 (as of 02/17/2012)Buy Now

What a fun way to learn the alaphabet and all about the curious animals from Australia! Each page of this picture book contains a letter and an animal, such as A for Ant, B for Bandicoot as we discover the wonderful Australian animals with the beautiful illustrations by the world renowned Aboriginal artist, Bronwyn Bancroft. All my favourite Australian animals are there, including the echidna, kangaroo and wombat.

The illustrations are just beautiful and done in a style which she describes on her profile page at the back of the book as "an exploration in line and colour". Children and adults alike will just adore her illustrations.

This book is the perfect addition to the collection for any home. Not only will your children have fun learning the alphabet and about all the wonderful and unusual animals found in Australia, but they will just love the exploration of colour in each illustration.

Koala Mania

Are they really a cuddly animal?

Ask the majority of tourists what they want to do when in Australia and the overwhelming response is to hold a koala. Many people think koalas are cute and cuddly.

Do you believe koalas are cute and cuddly?

Yes!

Koalas are great creatures. I used to teach in a school where we could sometimes see koalas in the trees behind the school. The kids would always get excited when they saw one.

No, no, no! Scary and smelly!

Australian Symbols

The official symbols of Australia

The Australian flag features the Union Jack, the five stars of the constellation of the Southern Cross and the Commonwealth Star. The union of crosses (St George's, St Andrew's and St Patrick's) represents Australia's early settlers which were primarily from Britain.

The Southern Cross represents our geographical location in the southern hemisphere and the Commonwealth star with the seven points represents the six states and one for all the territories.
