Collecting Australian Stamps

 

If you are interested in stamp collecting, Australian stamps have a lot to offer. There are many varieties in the early issues for serious study and very attractive stamps in later issues with a large range of topics.

Kangaroo and Map Series 

The Kangaroo and Map Series was the first issue of Australia issued in 1913 after the new Commonwealth was formed from the previous states.

The series came in a variety of different watermarks and was issued for a total of 38 years.

Australian King George V Heads 

The second major series of Australian stamps were the King George V Heads. Again this series lasted for many years, for all of the remainder of King George V's reign of 24 years, and was issued in a range of watermarks and denominations.

Australian King George V Commemoratives 

In 1927 Australia issued their first commemorative stamps - stamps issued to celebrate a particular event. The most famous stamps in this era were issued to commemorative the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Australian King George VI Stamps 

A range of attractive King George VI stamps was issued during his reign between 1937 and 1952.

These issues contain much interest for variety collectors and those interested in imprint and plate bocks - King George VI varieties

Australian Pre-Decimals 

Australian pre-decimal stamps were issued from 1953 to 1966 when Australian's currency was decimalised.

Collect the range of attractive sets or specialist Australian pre-decimals varieties and blocks.

Australian Decimals 

Australian decimals cover 1966 to date. These are made up up of a wide range of attractive stamps covering many different topics including scenery, birds, plants and animals, including of course, marsupials!
