Euro Cup 2008
Euro 2008 will be organized by Austria and Switzerland and will start on 7 June. The final of Euro 2008 will be on Sunday 29 June at the Vienna Ernst-Happel Stadion that fits 50.000 guests.
The groundwork for a European national-team competition began in 1956, two years later the first European Nations' Cup, now known as the UEFA European Championship, was under way.
The initial format saw early rounds played as home-and-away matches on a knockout basis until the semi-finals, which were then played in a host country. Given the effort that Henri Delaunay of the French Football Federation had put into UEFA's birth and European football, it was appropriate that the final phase of the first European Nations' Cup in 1960 should be held in France. The trophy itself is still named after him.

Twin mascots
A duo has been chosen to represent the festival of football in the two Alpine countries in two summers' time. Dressed in red and white football strips, the twins sport the national colours of both Austria and Switzerland. Their bright red, pointy hairstyles mirror the shape of the mountain peaks symbolically depicted in the official UEFA EURO 2008%u2122 logo.

Basle: To host the third-largest sporting event in the world and the largest ever to have taken place in Switzerland is a great honour but also a big challenge at the same time. All those involved in the organisation have long been excited about the preparation which is at an advanced stage
Bern: The people of Berne have the opportunity to either vote for one of four pre-selected slogans or enter a suggestion of their own. So far we have received 1,500 entries for a possible slogan, which is a sign of how committed the people of Berne are to hosting matches.
Geneve: Preparations for the finals are in full swing and we are delighted that between now and 2008, many exciting projects will be developed.
Zurich: At the moment the Letzigrund Stadium is being redeveloped. It should be finished and ready for use by summer 2007. The other preparations, such as the security, transport and marketing arrangements, are also moving along smoothly.
Innsbruck: The preparations for UEFA EURO 2008%u2122 are in full swing and groups have been organised to deal with marketing, security, stadium issues, traffic and fan support.
Salzburg: To cope with the excess demand, extra trams and a shuttle service will be used. In addition, the capacity of the impressive new stadium will be extended to 30,000 seats.
Klagenfurt: The measures we are taking will be agreed with the other UEFA EURO 2008%u2122 cities, with UEFA, the Austrian Football Federation, and the security representatives, as well as with the relevant agencies and organisations.
Vienna (Wien): The preparations for the tournament are up and running and now it is full steam ahead. We are extending one of our underground lines to the stadium, working on a new traffic control system, as well as giving the area surrounding the ground a face lift.
