Lynn Andrews-Shaman and Author

Many times in our lives we experience what is known as "Shaman Deaths". It is a completion or the end of one journey, and a new beginning in a new life cycle and new life experiences. On more than one occasion, during the process of my own "Shaman Deaths" it seems one or more of Lynn Andrews's books enter my life.

It was during my last "Shaman Death" that the book I want to highlight in this lens came into my life. I was actually introduced to by a precious friend of mine named Willow who died of Cancer in 2005. It was through this book that I feel I was saved in a sense. It is a book I have read several times and a book that I feel I will read many times again.

For me experiencing "Shaman Deaths" becomes harder as I get older and live through more experiences. What is it they always say, "When you reach the Crone Stage of your life and your wisdom grows on higher levels, so does the experiences you go through?" I believe this is my life motto.

Tree of Dreams A Spirit Woman's Vision of Transition and Change written by Lynn Andrews in 2001 is a very inspirational book written and can be used as "Spiritual Medicine" to help you when you go through your own "Shaman Deaths".

I cannot say enough about this book. It teaches you to think about the experiences you are going through. The book enables you to react and walk through the experiences with a little helpful guidance so you can complete the end of the old cycle and begin your new cycle.

It is a must have book!

Shaman Death

"Shaman death, is akin to an ego death. Many people go through this in life. You lose your sense of self, or identity. Through difficult times, you struggle to find your balance. Then, if you are lucky, you feel reborn into a newidentity that is much more aware and profound."

-Lynn Andrews-

Some highlights from my own book..

When you try to describe the "teachings" you receive from a book, it is very hard because each of us will learn what we need to, as we need too. This is a directly the book.

"People -we get confused. We get mixed up with things, and when we do, we tend to lose our. We get all wrapped around something, like a vine, and we think it's the truth. We it's the truth because it's bigger than we are, maybe we think it's better than we are, because we're not worthy.

There are two ways to wrap around something. One way is to suck it dry like a parasite that lives off of its host until the host is dead. It usually dies. The other way is to be service. Service is not servitude. As you become an apprentice, you begin to anticipate what I need, and in this way you yourself become the teacher. You think about what I told you, and about everything you've learned so far, so that you can be of service to me. In that way you learn what the teacher is made of, and when you learn that, you've learned the lesson".

This is how that passage related to me: In my younger days, I believed I needed a human teacher to teach me things about my spirituality. I was searching for guidance, direction and confirmation. We have the choice to dwell on things we do not have and become consumed with indecisions or we can focus on the fact that EVERYTHING around us can be our teacher if we allow ourselves to be open and accept the teachings.

"Service is how you begin to understand personal power, how you begin to understand the teacher, the guru, the great one, the wise one that teaches you. You are motivated from a place of passion within your own unique life. This is called the "Making of an act of power." The act of power, you create the mirrors that become your teacher".

During a time in my life when I could not find balance within myself. l I did a Shamanic Journey and met myself on a path. I came face to face with the outter image of myself and we merged together bringing all of me together. It was that day I honestly believe I found my personal power. I wrote alittle about this on my lens: Our Power Within

Connecting with all that you are is a huge stepping stone in becoming who you are.

More highlights from my own book-Tree of Dreams

This next section is a passage that I truly believe and have witnessed many times in my life.

"Many teachers and mystics have written about that shift. They speak of vision turning upside down before it turns over. Your personality doesn't change but who you are does. Your motivations change and your ability to see the sacred dream, or the illusion of life, shifts, and you see life differently than you ever saw it before. In a sense, you become a contradiction.

Someone may ask you one day what you feel and what you believe about certain aspects of truth. You may make a comment that is completely and totally contradicted the next when they ask you something else. How and why does that happen? It happens because what we often see in life is an illusion. But we don't know how to move beyond it until we reach the place call power, personal power."

I have always looked at this as a source of confirmation. Each day, when we get up in the morning it is a new day, a new beginning (so to speak). What we experienced the day before was experienced in the past, and although many times some of the residue from the experience may attach itself to the new day, in all actuality yesterday is nothing more than an illusion. As each new day approaches we will be able to view things a little differently (in most cases) therefore changing the way we see things.

Lynn Andrews asked one of her teaches this question: "How can we prepare ourselves for the small deaths that happen?" The response was this:

"We gain the power because we cannot prepare for surprises life throws at us-loss, betrayal, disappointment, and so on. Events can take you and fling you out of your reality. The struggle to recapture your balance is one of the mysterious gifts of life. These moments become gifts of strength, spiritual endurance, and power. To find your way back, you have to open your heart, not your mind, and let the healing of the Great Spirit flow through you. You will never again be the same."

I have not been able to achieve this with some aspects of my own life (yet). But just reading this and knowing this wisdom came from a wise woman gives me personal hope that things can be healed in time.

Another one of Lynn Andrews's teachers was describing how sometimes there are places within ourselves that need healing, but we can't seem to face them.

"There are emotional crystallization, in our lives and these things drive us, that trick us into behaving in ways that do not serve us. Relationships in our childhood have an impact on our lives and can make us break our connections with people. We destroy the bridges that might connect us to the innermost soul of someone. There is so often a place inside of us that needs healing that we can't seem to face. Those are the emotional crystallization.

Symbolically or literally, we give away our power to people. We give away the power of our understanding. As we experience difficulty in our lives, we crystallize into something solid, rigid, not flowing and we lose what we have come here to find.
These emotional crystallizations form the underlying core of what drives us from one experience to another if we are fearful. When we heal, we are transformed, and the next time we come from love."

What I have written are just a few small examples of the wisdom that this book teaches. It has been one of the most powerful books that I have read that has helped me go through different transitions in my life!
