I was able to plug the tool in to my car's OBDII connector, turn on the ignition switch (without starting the engine), press the "link" button, and in seconds had a code displayed. I noted the code, and looked through the user manual. Unfortunately, they only list common codes in the user manual, and didn't have my code. So I typed it in to the search box on their web page and found that I had a fault in my #2 cylinder glowplug. It was a simple test to verify that (check the resistance of each plug), and indeed that was the fault. I have glow plugs on order, and will replace them myself on the weekend.

This device is cheaper than even having a mechanic look at my car these days. Even if I wasn't able to fix the problem myself, I feel more confident going to a mechanic if I have a good idea of what the problem is. The price I spent was well worth it to me, and now I have the tool in case similar issues come up in the future. With today's car electronics, there is no other reasonable way to diagnose trouble.

This is a great tool for the money.In the old days you could use a paper clip and get trouble codes,but in todays vehicles you need a dianostic tool to find out what code is set.This tool will also keep your mechanic honest if you have any douts about what he tring to charge you for the repairs.It's also great to no that my vehicle will pass a state emission test.

I purchased this product because my wife's 1997 Honda Accord's "Check Engine" light had come on. It turned out to be an O2 sensor that was bad.

The dealer wanted $110.00 for the diagnostic which they would apply towards the $300.65 (before taxes) O2 sensor + $85.00 in labor + shop supplies. At a minimum, I was looking at over $400.00. I only paid $95.00 for this product and I can get the same O2 sensor for $150.00 online. I saved money the first time I used it and the tool paid for itself.

In addition, I can use it for any of my friend's and family's vehicles. A must have for anyone wanting to save themselves time, money and frustration at the dealer.

Tool is very easy to use. Just plug it into your OBDII connector, turn the key and watch it record the fault codes. Then plug it into the USB port of your computer and your done. Software is intuitive and defines all codes captured by the unit and then allows you to create a printout. One use and it's paid for when compared to the hassle and expense of taking the car to the shop. Also prevents fraud since you can tell the shop what is wrong.

It's a big up-front cost, but save it with peace of mind if you have a few year old car with a nuisance check vehicle light. Just think, if you ignore that light and then a 2nd big thing goes wrong, you might cause major damage.
I use it about once every 1000 miles when a nuisance non-existent problem causes the check vehicle light to come on. Each time, I verify the same code, then erase it.

The Actron CP9180 is an excellent diagnostic tool for the advanced auto mechanic or just an auto enthusiast car owner. The scanner performs as advertised and the display was easy to read. The display is backlit only when attached to the vehicle. The cost was relatively inexpensive and worth it just to have on hand for when that check engine light may come on. Just having the ability to reset the check engine light will justify the cost of this tool especially if the light came on erroneously. The manual could have been written better to explain the diagnostic monitor test. The rest of the manual and instructions were adequate. I am satisfied with this tool and recommend it
